Now you're going a little too far. Revis has been a huge help for them. Their defense has helped them a ton.

You say they rolled over the Colts. Yet that had nothing to do with Revis shutting down his side of the field limiting Indy to 7 points? Come on

He's not coming here. This story is probably being manufactured by his agents to Schefter just to troll us some more. I fell for it last year, but I won't fall for it again.

Revis was targeted 78 times this year, giving up 37 receptions. He had 2 interceptions, held the opposing QB to a 47.4 completion percentage and a 67.9 rating.

He was HUGE for them this year and had a lot to do with their success.

Ok but would we not have won more games if we didn't get burned on 3rd and long regularly? Or weren't tied for fewest takeaways in the league?
Red zone offense was a problem and we do need improved play by Geno or someone else but just because our offense sucked doesn't mean we didn't have one of the worst secondaries in the league and it isn't our biggest hole.
Signing Revis instantly shores up the CB position and takes away one of our rivals best players.

It doesn't matter if our QB play lost us most games last year. What matters is what we currently have at corner, and that's dog shit.

So whether the QB ruined us or the secondary, we need to upgrade both. We aren't winning shit with the secondary we currently have

Which is why they leaped upwards to 12-4 from their mediocre 12-4 record last year, becoming the #17 ranked passing defense in the process, well above the #18 they were last year.

Darrelle Revis was window-dressing on that defense and on the Patriots in general. He made very little actual difference to their finish.

Sounds like Manish Mehta is running this team.

Mehta has even recently been killing the Jets for trading Revis. (I thought it was a good trade). Unfortunately Woody seems to listen to him.

I think Revis solidified their defense. But not worth a crazy figure like 20 mil. If the Jets pay him that another successful sucker punch from Belichick to the Jets.

Revis was as much responsible for the 12 wins this year as he was for the 12 losses in TB last year. CB's just don't matter unless a bunch of other things go right or wrong first.

I could have pointed out in the response above that Darrelle Revis 74 great targets this year was about 8-10 targets better than the average NFL CB. Tom Brady on the other hand threw 582 passes significantly better than the average QB in the NFL. Figure he was +58 on the year in terms of high quality passes and he's 5x more valuable than Darrelle Revis (or any other CB) and that's why the Pats are going to the Super Bowl.

I would be absolutely shocked if Belichik pays Revis again next year. I think he goes free again and winds up in Buffalo.

I would argue that any game the pats won by 7 or less likely would've been jeopardized without Revis throughout the season. He was definitely a major key in why their defense is stingier than it has been since the early aughts and although he probably wasn't too important in directly securing playoff wins maybe it would've been a different story if NE had to go on the road instead of the 1 seed. I also imagine that if they win this game today Revis will have played an important role minimizing Wilson's passing attack otherwise Seattle will probably roll.

Point being yes he's a great player but no he doesn't play the most important position. He'll make a good defense great or almost great and he'll shore up a weak defense to some extent. But he won't bring victory by himself and he's getting older.

In principle I wouldn't rule out a reunion if the contract was favorable enough but I also don't see a world where that will be the case. he wants too much and his skills will be in decline when the team would hopefully need him most 3-5 years from now.

I think you explore all big ticket options with this kind of cap space but if the new GM makes a big push for Revis first thing out of the gate and doesn't provide too much in FA besides that marquee move I'm going to take that as the first troubling sign in the new direction of the franchise. Doubt it's going to play out like that but time will tell.

I think Woody will do anything that he thinks will be popular with the fans and the press. Not the way to run a team.

The Pats played 5 games this year that were decided by one score. They went 3-2 in those 5 games, beating the Jets twice and the Raiders and losing to the Packers and the Bills.

Are you suggesting that without Darrelle Revis the Pats wouldn't have been able to beat the Jets and the Raiders?

Hopefully Maccagnan has someone that understands the cap in his ear telling him how dumb this would be when you don't even have a quarterback, let alone an offense that can get you to the point of needing ONE dominant cornerback to contend.

Should've looked it up I guess figured there would've been more than that.

If you want to truly prove that Revis meant nothing you'd have to look at every positive play he made all season and look at what happened on subsequent drives and figure out the likelihood that if a realistic substitute CB was in the game instead there would've been a swing of more than one score as a result. It isn't practical to figure out and it would still suffer from subjectivity of analysis.

Plus, again, he could just create a positive impact that helps win the game today and you'll have to argue why Winning the Super Bowl with Revis doesn't really mean that Revis can possibly make a big impact on winning a Super Bowl.

I truly hope to not have to live in a world where you have to face up to that hypocrisy as it has been the cornerstone of your argument against Revis for years, but the fact that this discussion is even a possibility right now pokes at least some holes in your case that he's useless for winning championships.

Yeah Revis gave us a boat load of trouble in our 2 combined losses by 3 points.
