Buccaneers | Team will visit with Ashworth Sat, 11 Mar 2006 12:46:30 -0800 Jim Flynn, of PewterReport.com, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will visit with free agent OL Tom Ashworth (Patriots) Saturday evening, March 11.
Ashworth started all three postseason games in 2003 as part of an offensive line that did not allow a sack in the playoffs as Tom Brady attempted 126 passes and the Patriots claimed victory in Super Bowl XXXVIII. Ashworth has started 22 regular-season and playoff games in his professional career, all as a member of the Patriots. New England is 21-1 in those games, including the postseason. In the 22 regular-season and playoff games that Ashworth has started, the Patriots offensive line has allowed just 31 sacks, an average of just 1.4 sacks per game.
Actually Ashworth lost his job to Brandin Gorin this year. When Gorin got hurt, rookie Nick Kazcur took the starting spot and it was only the injuries to Gorin and Matt Light (Kazcur moved over to left tackle to replace Light) that kept Ashworth on the field this year. He's great as a backup but limited as a starter. He would be an improvement over what the Jets currently have but should only be seen as a short term solution. Chatham is a good special teams player but he wants to play more linebacker and Belichick won't let him because of a lack of talent. That's why he's shopping himself around the league.
Dude, thats bogus-- this guy is a 30 year old special teams player- I've never even seen him once against the Jets- my friend is a fan, and said the guy sucks.
