Because the owner doesn't know enough about football to make his own decisions so he hires people to make decisions and then he doesn't trust the people he hired based on the advice of the people he hired to make decisions about who to hire.

I'm sorry, Rex is not the best defensive coach in football and the laundry list against your opinion is too long to even provide specific examples.

He's been the owner since 2000. How in 14 years of owning a professional football team do you not eventually learn? Smh.

boy if they do hire Mora can't wait to read all the high praise for him on this board from all the experts, then a year from now the same people will be storming the complex with pitch forks .

I wonder if we will UCLA east now?

It doesn't -- but what it does mean is that coach would have a better idea if the prospect might have what it takes to be an NFL QB.
We can see now why these coaches didn't want their college QB.
If Mora would want Hundley we do not know, but if he does that would mean something.

I dunno, all that experimental shampoo they tested in him as a kid ate a hole in the football part of his brain? Your guess is as good as mine.

If they like him enough to be a franchise QB, they won't mess around and will trade up before day ends so other QB hungry teams like St. Louis or Houston don't try and use a full day to negotiate with Tampa or Tenn.

Hundley will be a mid second rounder ( You would have to trade down in the second or up from the third)

Absolutely agree but its the GM's job to keep the coach in check so the team doesn't become so dead set on a player to reach ahead of their value.

If the cards don't fall right in the draft, the team needs to have alternatives.

Funny how you can predict next years record before a supposed new GM is in place and Free Agency / Draft. And as for 4-12, we are already there - best case.

Well maybe if the team did the right thing for once and go after a GM first THEN have him hire a head coach maybe Id feel a little more optimistic.

But just like Idzik was the bottom of the barrell option 2 years ago we'll most likely have to settle for another guy along those lines.

Not a lot to be optimistic about right now but I did give us 1 more win then we will have this year.

Jim Mora would be such a Jets hire. Why not just forfeit the next 3 years and not force fans to endure the inevitable 15-33 record?

Please folks are we fucken that overreactingly stupid ?

Reading some of this whinning BS at the first rumor we hear is a painful reminder as to why most Jet fans will never be happy no matter who the fuck we pick, unless perhaps is some freaking dinasuarous that has not coached since Purcell was in the league 100 years ago.

Forgive me but those who immediately dismiss Mora as a bottom of the barrel choice or a looser or a sure bet to get Hundley, who by the way might turn out the best of the bunch given time, probably have zero first hand knowledge nor do they have a clue as to the work Mora has done with UCLA.

He has lifted a perennial looser into a real contender, kicked the mighty USC in the ass in the process, put his players in a position to win, got himself the best strength condition coach around courtesy of the Jets, bulked them up, strong, intimidating and gave the program more credibility than ever before.
Yet the same Jet fans clamor for other college coaches with zero NFL experience in their resume, playing a glorified spread offense agains mediocre competition.

God damned, Woody should have hired some Jet fans as consultants for COL. Agreement will never be reached...ever.

Could you elaborate on why you feel a guy with an about .500 record as an NFL head coach would fall so low.
Like I said before I do not love the idea, but it is actually an out of the box and anything but typical hire.
It is a qualified candidate that actually no one has mentioned.

The typical Jets hire would be Bowles, Quinn or any of the so called "hot" coordinator prospects.

Well no matter what happens the defense should have at least 5 first rounders starting next year as well as a 2nd and a 3rd rounder. There is definite talent there. Even with Rex gone (if the reports are true) there are many defensive coaches that should be able to get the defense to play well. The offense is definitely a question mark, but to say that the Jets are doomed to a 4-12 record next year is a little premature.

Forgive us if a college coach and failed NFL coach doesnt make us feel good.

And building a winner at UCLA (who wouldn't want to go to college in Los Angeles) and kicking the ass of a "powerhouse" in USC isnt as impressive now as it would've been in lets say 2005.
