That is very interesting, I thought this would be a thread with people saying he sucks and is not worth it. I also would love to see him back. Maybe it's the underdog syndrome, people love the underdog. The guy doesn't have all of the athletic ability or talent of others, but he always seems to be playing his heart out.
well, for 4+ seasons he barely made it on the field for the titans. he was usually a dime back. he couldn't crack the lineup. woolfolk, that is.
He has a lot of poise and great instincts and I think he is a filmaholic, and that's something good to have around younger players like Revis and Miller. He takes great angles and breaks on the ball with more quickness than you would expect. He certainly doesn't have the athletic ability that you want from a starter, but neither did Ray Mickens and the guy was always a great nickel back. Poteat brings us experience and much knowledge of the scheme from a player standpoint.
Definitely re-sign poteat. At the very least, he's great depth at CB and a guy that's started before and knows the system.
I think it would be a savvy move to bring back Poteat. Stable player, can start or fill the nickel slot if another CB steps up. Give this guy a home and a team to finally call his own.
You know, I like Poteat, but if we bring him back, after getting rid of Dyson, I'll be pretty confused... Poteat is OLDER than Dyson, and, though he's shown flashes of being a really solid player here and there, does not have near the body of work as a solid starter that Dyson does... We're weak at the #2 CB position, with a lot of 'maybes' and no sure things. That we kicked Dyson to the curb before the draft really puzzles me...
i think Dyson's injuries are worse than anyone knows about. he hasn't been picked up by another team yet, which speaks volumes. Poteat is healthy and solid, a so-so #2, but thats fine for the salary we'd be paying him. We will probably draft someone with the 4th rnd pick, for depth and competition.
Poteat would be a very experienced nickel or dime, but he would be experienced depth with ability, not as the starter. I still think we're going to draft a corner on day 1. Possibly as high as 2. Dyson doesn't have the ability of a healthy starter anymore.
I would love to see Poteat come back. I would personally rather have him in a tight game than David Barrett any day. Poteat is good for making tackles too, although I think less runs will be getting to our secondary this year.
The Imiage of Dyson getting bitch slapped by Plaxico while trying to arm tackle is burned into my brain. I know he was injured last year, but if it was that bad he should not have been playing. His body of work last year was about as awful as you can get. Poteat is older. Solid. Cheap. Experinced in our defense. I see no problem with retaining a guy like that.
I agree with this. Poteet is a consistent technique player, as is Barrett, and Miller will be hyper-motivated to make the team since his original return spot has been more than adequately filled by Leon. The addition of a Cromartie or a McKelvin will only improve the contest. It's too bad we don't have a beat reporter who is good enough (and smart enough) to follow these contests through the offseason process and give us a blow by blow of who's up and who's down and why...
I dont understand why you guys love him so much, he is a below average corner at best. Maybe a Dime corner. Barret is better than him imo.
Poteet maintains better position on his man than does Barrett. This is, by the way, why Mangini is so high on him. This also is the result of his dedication to analyzing film of his opponents.
barret is another CB the Jets have who cannot stay healthy. Poteat stays off the injury report. and the above statement made by Chad&Kellen.
Very good points there. Those and the fact that he has been comming at a much less expensive price tag put him above Barrett or Dyson on my wish list for the upcomming season.
I can't figure out why they wait till they get rid of D-ROb, You'll need more depth anyway on the CB so just sign him anyway!
You are dead wrong and mistaken. In Andre Woolfolk's first two years as a Titan he was the Nickel behind Samari Rolle and Andre Dyson... He had season ending injuries both years, that required reconstructive surgery (once to the ligaments in his ankle, required posts in his ankle... then the next season his wrist, he had a big frame thing with screws inserted. Both made him start camp late, yet he overcame.. The second time was more significant because he overcame the injury, and the team cut Samari Rolle and Dyson due to the Salary Cap... The corner spots were wide open... Andre started the first 9 games of that season until he got hurt.... Then I believe the Titans threw in the towel because of injuries... He was the nickel for the last 3 games of the season that year and the next season (4), he had to fight from that point to get on the field. I can verify all of this if you like, but please don't go off of disgruntled Titans fans false and misleading words... Andre is resilient. He is never say die and that is why he is here with the Jets now..... He is a 120% effort kind of guy... The only thing that will ever slow him would be an injury.... Let's all believe he is done with those...:jets:
Injuries have been a curse on Woolfork. he is actually a very good player, if he can stay healthy, and that is a BIG IF, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he started opposite Revis
