The CB or the RB could go in on a rotation or on special teams. The 4th QB has no chance of making it into the game unless the team gets completely fucked.
What are you talking about, if he's not projected to be a HOF caliber player, he's not wanted here, no matter where he plays.... and that includes back ups damn it!
Obviously, they need to be inducted into the HOF prior to playing in the NFL in order to be wanted here
I think that's what Tanny is dreaming of... however for the sake of the team I couldn't stand having 4 QBs on the active roster... an extra CB or WR could be much more helpful. After all how many times did a trade like the Whitehurst one happen? Most often that not backup QBs remain what they are and you'll never get a pick for them...
That is why I would prefer not to sign Mark Brunell and just cut Clemens anyway. Sanchez already has two mentors in Cavanaugh and Schottenheimer. Brunell's arm is shot, as is Bulger's brain and most of the rest of his body...and I just have this illogical, irrational dislike for Jeff Garcia that I will not be able to explain.
No they don't, there are 8 inactives each week, one of which is the extra QB. I don't see why anyone would care about having a QB that the CS sees promise in riding the bench each week instead of an extra RB or CB that isn't needed either.
Except those guys can come off of the bench week-to-week if there is a situation where the CS would want to carry more players at one position or if there is an injury. If the starting QB goes down, the 4th QB rides the pine regardless because the team still has to pull the 3rd QB off the inactive list.
Rex has mentioned before that Cavanaugh is our "veteran" back up-mentor, etc. for Mark. If Mark had regressed or was messed up, I could see the need for some more help, but thats not the case. If they let Clemens back up a rookie, there should not be a problem this year having Ainge as our backup. This is his 3rd year here, he knows our system, and he has looked more comfortable running the offense than Clemens. If Mark gets knocked out for a couple series during a game they would probably just have Brad Smith fill in anyways, which I have no problem with.
I dont always agree with Cato but I do here. We do not need to carry 4 QB's and waste a space on the roster. That space could be better utilised elsewhere.
There has to be a reason a player of his caliber has been bounced around like a ping pong ball between crappy teams with crappier QBs the past few years. I do agree a 4th QB isn't neccessary. I'd rather have that roster slot given to a 4th rb, linemen or situational Defensive / special teams player
It's funny, I remember him saying that before when people asked if we needed a veteran backup. Now he's specifically saying he thinks Brunell would be a good mentor. I guess he's had a change of heart. Either that or he was scared at how bad Clemens looked when he played.
