Or it's possible no one they interviewed envisioned being successful while being handcuffed with the Rodgers contract.
I agree, it is all possible. Looking at the facts, considering that they brought Glenn and Newmark at the same time, spent all day together, did not schedule any other interviews, then gave Glenn an offer I think we can conclude that they likely envisioned these two as the pairing. However they clearly prioritized Glenn between the two, and yes, to GQM's point, if Glenn was thinking to bring AR back and Newmark was saying no, it could have been his downfall, among many other things. To me it is clear they did not agree on something significant, causing to expand the search. Which may not be a bad thing.
It could have been the other way too, maybe Newmark wanted Rodgers and Glenn didn't. We really don't know what caused Newmark to fall out, just that something did. Dick Chimney has a cool article about it: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43525976/new-york-jets-pairing-new-gm-coach-aaron-glenn "Glenn got hired since, while Newmark has not as of now. He remains a candidate, according to a team source, but it certainly appears as if the Jets have shifted their focus to Brown and Mougey, two of the original 15 candidates that were interviewed." "He hasn't worked with Mougey or Brown, neither of whom has GM experience, but know this: Glenn and Brown have been friends for a couple of years." "Mougey has an indirect connection to Glenn -- Broncos coach Sean Payton, Glenn's former boss with the Saints." So, it appears the Jets now found a couple of more connections to Glenn and are interviewing these. What do you guys think of Brown? Also young like Mougey. Background seems VERY diverse. From scout in NE and Philly to AAF and XFL (both Leagues collapsed) to the Bengals last 4 years. Was a part of SB team in NE and Cincy when they made SB, though both times as a scout. Also it seems like he may have been actually let go by Philly if I read this correctly: https://www.bleedinggreennation.com...ecutive-trey-brown-alliance-american-football . "Brown’s name was quietly omitted from the Eagles’ front office roster a few weeks ago in a rush of restructures and promotions."
