Is that a bad thing though that they were able to identify good QBs for years? They didn't exactly have top picks to get these QBs either. Love was picked late round 1 when Rodgers could still play. Heck, maybe if Woody were not dumb enough to keep JD last year, and we ended up with a GB guy for a GM, we could have picked Bo Nix in this draft and actually got an offensive coach who could develop him, like the way GB did with Love and MLF. So, I don't think this GB assistant would be a terrible choice, but I would go with the Philly guy. Philly once again made conf finals without a great QB but via strength of their overall roster, well rounded scouting and analytics department, and good coaching. That seems to be the theme since Roseman took over control of the roster in 2016. In that time span went to 2 SBs with two different coaches and without a great QB. And now conf finals at the very least. Halaby has been there all this time, and maybe could replicate something like this here.
Korn Ferry is a general purpose headhunter organization with little or no presence or insight into the league; Casserly and another NFL relic were out of touch with what went on in the league at the time but at least in those instances Johnson reached out to try to do better than he had alone. I don't consider casual recommendations by Parcells, Manning or anyone else as Johnson ceding his hiring power. In the end all his hirings were his - at least he appears to understand he is not equipped to be making these calls in a vacuum. 33Team has its fingers on the heartbeat of the league and knows who are the movers and shakers and up and comers - that's why they are in place today. "If at first you don't succeed..." is an improvement over saying "we tried to pay for help which didn't work out so we'll go back to doing it ourselves even though that doesn't work." Whoever or whatever Johnson uses to feed him information on appropriate candidates has to be looked at as an improvement over him doing it himself. The Johnson family is not going away - why are people here complaining that they are still trying to get it right. Is there a stone unturned with the secret of successful hiring in the NFL they should know about?
Improvement? You are aware the Jets are coming off looking as if they have no idea what they're doing taking this long to hire a new GM & head coach? Woody fired the HC after week 5 the GM a few weeks later. The Jets had a good headstart on every other team yet may be the last team to make hires. Was Coach Ulbrich formally fired? Or Hackett? I read he took a job in Atlanta I don't remember hearing or reading he had been fired. It's just weird.
