since it's the offseason and all figured it's a good time to look over stuff like this. Robbie tends to get a lot of hate here for being a 1 trick pony and while i could go over all his good traits (Speed, Toughness, ball skills, high motor, catch radius) I'm going to just focus on route running today. Beating press coverage with route running Video Breakdown https://imgur.com/a/PKw2CBq Route Variety - 1 game week 16 2018 vs packers Video Used Curl Route Square In https://imgur.com/a/KnmBnm3 comeback https://imgur.com/a/57XDVcD quick flat https://imgur.com/a/dlVX9vZ go https://imgur.com/a/QMtiEKP comeback https://imgur.com/a/qgRb0Wq sit https://imgur.com/a/f22OLBZ drag https://imgur.com/a/NweXZq3 square out (20 yard deep out) https://imgur.com/a/r3xoCCN In that game robbie was 9 catches for 140 yards and 1 TD. of the 9 catches he used 8 different routes to get them. that was only 1 game as well. he runs every route well.
He's not perfect but he's a stud and one of the greatest one on one deep threats within the game today. Gaining Le'Veon Bell is going to open up so many more opportunities for Robby Anderson I'm excited for the kid developing and growing alongside of Darnold moving forward and should become a 1,000+ yard receiver each and every season from here on out. Polish up his route running and ball security and he's a top 10 WR weapon imo his speed and one on one ability is super rare.
Love him, always been a fan since we signed him up and he showed up in the preseason catching long from Petty, he looked then that he had something special and I was sure he would have broken a 1000 yards last season but was ignored by Bates in his play calling for so many games (break out v Denver, same as the RB's oddly) wonder if he was blamed for the two fumbles in games 2 and 3 from memory thought they were harsh but could be remembering wrongly or just biased lol, still he ended up 752 yards. Hopefully Gase can use him and scheme him open more often and with defences possibly locking in on Bell it could be a big year for Robby
Very under appreciated by Jets fans, very happy he seems to fit into Gase’s plan and will be part of the core going forward, now just get him signed.
While you may claim he is underrated. I will say the opposite - totally overrated. Shouldn’t even be in the top 3 receivers on a good team.
Robbie will never Be a #1. That said, With a #1 the guy is dangerous and a nightmare for CB's His hands are actually what has impressed me. There are a few catches he made that I swore he wouldn't. ..Hands are a dangerous thing.
What I like about Anderson is he follows the ball in the air very well, positioning his body and timing his jumps. He does a great job of winning fights for contested balls. This to me is what sets him apart from most WRs. He should be a lot better with Bell forcing defenses to protect against the run and short passes. With Robbie, Crowder, Q, Bell and Herndon defenses will have to cover the entire field. I hope they sign Robbie this offseason and lock him in longterm.
One thing about Robbie is he gets first downs. You rarely see him catch a pass short of the first down marker. The packers game he had 9 receptions 7 first downs & 1 TD. The one he didn't get a first down was a WR screen for 9 yards on first down. I can't wait to see what Gase has in store for the offense. If he is as good as advertised he has the tools to work with. I feel Crowder, Herndon, Q, Bell & Robbie complement each other well.
I thought he bounced back from an ugly start to the season pretty well. I was very nervous that someone was going to throw a late second at him to lure him away, but admittedly I'm not totally sure how RFA works. I assume the Jets would have had the option to match. I love Robbie. I wish I had time to dig up all the 'great' comments on TGG when Macc brought him in as a walk on: twig spaghetti gonna get broken definitely camp foder, will get cut in first cuts to scrawny to make it in the nfl I have to admit I too thought he'd get snapped in half on the first play! So pleased to see him doing beyond well. Go grab for Macc!
Okay, this is your opinion, that's fine but it would be taken with a lot more weight if it was supported in some way rather than just dropped on the table like a loaf of bread.
There has been rumors that they're trying to trade him for a 3rd rounder. I dont get the reason because he is a strong #2 receiver. Perhaps the Jets think someone in the draft will be better than him but we already got 2 3rd rounders, so if theres a receiver they really like then just take one. Even better if Robby is still on the team because you can evaluate whether to even give Robby another contract or to move on with the rookie. I'd much rather move Lee who is just a luxury at this point.
I disagree, in the context that if you think T.Y. Hilton is a #1 then Robby can be as well. He and T.Y. are nearly the exact same player minus Robby being taller, faster, longer, but not as strong to go up at the point of attack like T.Y. can. Until a coach asks him to run a more diverse route tree I'm not going to say what he can or can't run consistently, because he has run every route effectively on a limited basis.
He was terrible first half this past year. He came on better in the 2nd half, and maybe some of that can be attributed to him gaining some chemistry with Sam. But I have to see much more to be excited about him. To me, he’s more of a #2 at this point of his career and Q is more of a #3. We don’t really have a #1. Is Braylan still available??
