Betts is a more than servicable back, and he is signed to a great contract.

Vilma is not a great fit in our defense, and may even not want to resign with us because of that. Even if Vilma does resign, it will be at top 10 LB money, and I don't believe he is worth that as a 3-4 ILB.

Now may be the time to trade him, and the team to trade him to is Washington. They love overpaying for 'canes.

The problem I have is that let's say this trade happens and we have the number 6 pick and use it for a nose tackle. First, the nose tackel likely will not have an immediate impact and second, what if his talents are overated (Dewayne Robertson). Then, you've effectively traded arguably our best defensive player and # 25 for an unproven RB and and averatge NT.

I can just see it now.......We do the trade, Betts turns out to be worthless, whoever we get at #6 gets injured and Vilma has a crazy good season, wins defensive player of the year, and the jets take a few steps backwards. I mean if you guys are really that content on seeing the jets fail, then i guess you hope for this trade.

if if if...what a stupid scenario...so we cant make the trade because Betts might suck.....the #6 may get hurt and Jon vilma might do well somewhere else in a system he is more suited for..???? you may have the worst post of this thread dude, but it is still early.....and champ, I thik the saying is "where theres smoke, theres fire"

Yes, because the ridiculous scenario you depicted is a guarantee to happen.

What if Betts plays great, we pick Alan Branch at #6 and he becomes equal to or better than Richard Seymour, and in his first pre-season game with the Redskins, Vilma tears the ACL in both his knees?

See, I can paint a ridiculous picture, too!

Every year there are rumors of jets-skins trade discussions. I'll believe it when I see it.

because if u watch the games everyone from fans to sports analyst . Could see our Dline was undersize and Weak and got pushed around alot..you get vilma a True NT he will be fine. there is no reason to trade vilma its his 3rd year in the league his 1st 2 years were great.. 1 bad year with a new system and a NT thats playing out of position hardly warrents him being traded. and if you do trade vilma tell who the hell is gonna play ILB for us ? schlegel, kassell, barton?

this trade is horrible cause not only do the redskins get a proven pro bowl caliber Player. they still get a late 1st rd pick to use which helps them since they cant afford the #6 pick anyway. we get a running back who in 5 years has 1 good season and another unproven player (although a blue chip prospect) who can ethier boom or bust.

Economically, have any pick in the top 6 or 7 is just bad. You don't get great value for the money you have to spend. It takes a year or two to develop and than by then, you have to give the player a much bigger contract. If a player doesn't pan out than you pretty much pay him all that money for marginal play.

first of all who cares what the Redskins get? I f Vilma goes oever there and is great I really dont care, because the fact is he aint great here....and to tell you the truth Im getting a little tired of the NT excuse..yes we need help there and yes that hurts the Linebacker but the fact of the matter is this guy is nowhere near the player some of you think he is.....and as far as his play warranting being traded or not...its not a personal thing dude....if the situation warrants a trade then you make the trade

I just don't want this to happen! There are merits in such a deal but please, Vilma didn't have a great season last year but he is our talisman, he talks Jets, walks Jets and bleeds Jets! Fuggetaboutit!

oh my bad...definitely did not want to re-use a champ joke...but I will say this...the joke stems from certain jet fans who refuse to hear anything but JVilma is a hall of famer....and the truth is he has proven to be nothing more than a "good little player" at this point....you can point out all the tackles you want( I guess we should have kept Victor Green too) but the fact of the matter is that the man makes very little impact on the game i.e sacks, forced fumbles, hits behind the LOS...and he sucks very bad at dropping back into coverage...sorry if I dont see the brilliance of Vilma

Sorry, but the top 6 is NOT guaranteed to produce a franchise player.

Joey Harrington, David Carr, Akili Smith, Tim Couch, Alex Smith, Gerard Warren, Courtney Brown, Peter Warrick, LaVar Arrington, Ryan Leaf, Andre Wadsworth, Curtis Enis are ALL players taken top 6 in the past 10 years. They all failed to live up to expectations

LaVar Arrington was solid for a while but he got hurt. Alex Smith might still yet turn it around but I doubt it.

Remember JD that in GM you are dealing with one of Herms strongest backers on this board so from that you can see how much FB analyzing skills he really has. I to thought his support for JV was from all those JV jerseys he owns that would be garbage if he was traded or even worse cut or even demoted to 2nd or 3rd string

I agree, but what about the fact that Vilma will require 7-8 mil per year when his contract expires in 2 years? I'd much rather pay that type of money to a dominating DL rather than an above-average (in the 3-4) LB.

well lets put it like this betts dont warrant a damn trade for vilma. Vilma has proven more in 3 yrs than betts has shown in 5...do you hate vilma that much to trade him a career backup.
