you cannot be too tall to play NT. the best NT in the business is 6'5 ted washington.

ladell betts? are you serious. vilma for betts? screw the draft picks just think of that for a second.

they must be off their rocker. how about we just give them their 2nd rd pick back for portis. they get cap room and a pick. or give them their pick back and a future 5th rounder which could go up as high as a 2nd rder if portis gets over 250 carries or over 1200 rushing.

    something like that.

betts, I wont even hear about. no thank you.

I said this in the Portis thread and I'll say it again. I would definitely be in favor of this trade. Vilma was unimpressive last season and Betts is a rising star. Plus that sixth pick is money in the bank.

Why would you trade for a running back and then draft Adrian Peterson?

Betts aint no rising star. michael bennett and dominic rhodes have had 1,000 yard seasons before. i doubt people consider them rising starts.

Vilma on the other hand is a star now.. 1 off year in a new system isnt gonna make me think diffrent. in fact im actaully excite4d casevilma said he self his year wasnt that great.. i fullly expect him to dominate next season.

Its seems suprisingly logical for a rumored trade. Not that I would take it, but I'd think about it.

Especially if you assume (maybe fair, maybe not)
    1. Washington has too many RB
    2. Vilma may not be a good fit in 3-4
    3. Washington seems to prefer veterans to draft picks
    4. I'm not sure we will get value at 25. I'd rather go up to get Branch, Carriker or down to get value.
    5. We could hold on to #6 until the draft and then get something in a trade for whomever falls (Quinn?) while moving to the middle of rd 1 and getting more/better picks.
    6. It seems to me that the real value this year is in rd 2.

Yea but didnt we all believe that Vilma was a rising star a year before last year? 1 bad year and people jump on the "trade vilma" wagon. Yes Betts maybe a rising star but what happens is he cant duplicate the season he had in Washington? I personally do not see Betts as an every down back. We already have Leon. I rather keep leon and get a bigger back than having Betts and Leon on the same team

No way betts is worth it...we should go after the guy the Skins stupidly cut last training camp instead...Jesse Lumsden.

If they replaced Betts for someone else of value I'd do it. Then use #6 to draft Adrian Peterson.

Listen, when we drafted Vilma, we all as Jet fans KNEW that as Vilma went, as would go the next generation of Jets football... It doesn't matter that he is not best suited for the 3-4. He is our defense, and, in many ways with the retirement of Curtis and Wayne and the inconsistency of Chad, Vilma is the image of our team. You DO NOT trade away players that mean as much to the franchise as Vilma does to ours. End of story...

Linebackers are CRITICAL to the success of a 3-4 defense. When they struggle (Like Joey Porter this year) the defense struggles.

If the Jets do not feel Vilma can be a strong LB within this system then trade to get your franchise NT to shore up the 3-4. Casey Hampton however was a big tackle that I seem to remember we got late in round 1 the year we drafted him, so not sure this trade makes sense for you guys.

Betts was just signed to a contract extension. I am not sure of the particulars, but any bonues money would be automatically accelerated. Granted the skins seem fond of doing this, but I don't know why they would resign him at the end of the season just to trade him.

As for Branch his is in the process of slimming down if you watched the Sportscenter piece. He played at 336 at Michigan and is looking to get under 325 for the combine. While he could put back on weight, he seems to be gearing up as an DT in a 4-3.

Overall, I am not fond of trading for above average running backs. Maybe the seconder round and Vilma for #6 and Betts, but I wouldn't feel comfortable trading the #25.

This is a pathetic deal......Betts only showed up last year to get his contract and because of the new coordinator in town(Saunders). He will have some tough times running with Brian Scottenheimer's schemes. Vilma has had his struggles, but remember the dude has no Effing DT/DE to pressure the QB or knock the RB down so Vilma gets relied upon to do too much. Give him someone up front like Ray Lewis asked last year(Got Ngata) and see what happens. I wouldent mind the 6th overall pick at all nor would the Skins giving it up considering of their cap room situation. But get out of here by giving us Betts, if your giving us a RB it better be C-Port.

So in esscence, we give up the 12th pick(Where Vilma was drafted), 25th pick this year for the 6th pick this year and Betts who has a questionable contract.

    Yeah this deal sucks.

BTW, has Washington been that bad in DC? He made the pro bowl for the Skins either this year or last year but he was the heart and soul of the D in their 2nd rd playoff run last year. Can he play OLB or something or will Vilma be moved there? Confusing....

A #6 pick is a virtual guarantee to be a franchise player at his position, Betts showed he is a franchise player as well. A #23 pick is a crapshoot, and Vilma is not a good fit for us no matter how great an athelete he is. I fail to see the downside here for us, it would be a fleecing of the Skins that I don't think even they would be dumb enough to pull the trigger on.

Name me what guys in our front line can pressure the RB and QB....I dont like Abraham at all but the man helped Vilma out signifcantly. Ellis has been afwful, Kimo sucks and Robertson either shows up or doesnt.

I am sure if we get someone up front, Vilma will show numbers.

by having 1 good season makes him a franchise player? its funny how before this trade rumor no one was mentioning betts as a option.. now all sudden he is rising star? and a franchise player? most guys didnt want portis for a 2nd rd pick. portis imo is a franchise player. betts has 1 good season.

Betts had a solid 6-7 games last season but he wasnt good at all before then. There was a reason Washington brought in TJ Duckett and gave up their 3rd rounder... they had serious doubts in Betts, but Betts worked a tadbit harder for the juicy contract and just got the Al Saunders play book which consists mostly of helping the RB out with certain cuts from the O-Line.

Vilma and the #25 for Betts and the #6? That's a no-brainer. Betts would be the power complement to Leon's speed and elusiveness, and with the sixth pick we could get one of the big linemen, preferably Branch, that would be perfect for the 3-4.

If it's true, the Jets would have to jump all over that deal.
