@PennyandtheJets The standoff is over my friend. I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted. And considering how it ended up, I need a cigarette.
I didn't call him a POS. Just clarifying once again. And I also said it's my OPINION in every post, so what are you even talking about. I also get it that unpopular OPINIONS often get run out on a rail. That's OK, too. Message board, you know.
It is over and I will say, I think it ended well. They didn't have to pay out the ass like I thought they were going to do. Roughly $13 million per season is very, very reasonable. If the dude is healthy, it will undoubtedly help Sam and the Jets.
Anyone that thinks he’s not an asshole is kidding themselves. But you know what? Like Strawberry and Reggie Jackson and all the others of that ilk, he’s OUR asshole so the league can suck it. An incredibly gifted-yes I’ll repeat- generational talent that will be a Godsend for Sam and just made this team a hell of a lot more exciting and entertaining. Just hope he keeps his ego in check. Well done. Cannot wait for the season to start. Fuck yeah!
Want to know if the guy with the contact at the Jets called the contact back yet? The contact owes you a beer bro.
Btw, haven’t read the whole thread, but he kind of fucked himself monetarily. He’s never getting back that $14.5 million he left on the table. A bold strategy that didn’t pay off for you, Cotton
In all honesty he is sitting on 36m guaranteed, does he really need to worry about lost earnings or that he may have been on 17m a season. He is meant to be a jet fan is he not? If so we will find out how much when the action gets under way. Fingers crossed for a 100% focused and devastating Bell.
I really don’t care about his earnings but he literally left $14.5 million on the table and he will never earn that back. This contract did not recoup that money. It’s gone forever.
The only things that missing out on that money bought him was a year off from football and a chance to be on the open market. He rolled the dice and it didn't necessarily back fire, but he didn't cash in like I am sure he expected to.
But you care about his 14.5 million. I think total guarantee numbers of the contract might win out for him.
I don’t even necessarily think it was about the money. Obviously a lot of it was about the money, but I think it was also a lot about standing his ground and not accepting whatever the machine threw at him. He wanted longer-term security for doing a job that could end with one wrong move. Steelers were never offering that. Same shit they did with Brown. Same shit they’ll do with JuJu.
I wish I stayed up the extra half hour at midnight, but waking up to news alerts & texts is still the same. Kudos to Macc for getting this done at such a great price. Looks like Bell's holdout ended up only benefiting us!
He thought he’d make back that $14.5 million and more. He thought he was going to be compensated for a year he didn’t play. He was wrong. I really don’t CARE about his money earnings wealth. I’m talking about his strategy. He pissed away a full years salary that, as an aging NFL RB, he’ll never make up in the backend. And had he taken the Steelers deal he would have made almost as much in the first 2 years as his total guarantee here (if the reports are correct). You can sit out a year in baseball and make it up on the back end. Bell will be done in 3-4 years and won’t recoup the money he left on the table for sitting out a full year. It was a terrible strategy but it worked out perfectly for us. Now I hope he doesn’t sulk because of his faux pas and not give full effort.
When people say (not you) that it’s not about the money, what they really mean is, it’s about the money. Very rarely in pro sports is it anything BUT about the money. None of us know but IMHO it was 100% about the money and nothing about taking a stand. The man wanted to get paid and there is NOTHING wrong about that. It’s just a tough sport to sit out a whole year given the lifespan of an NFL player, especially RB.
