Im interested at how excited/confident this guy became when he found out Rex Ryan claimed him. Cuz hes gotta know there is no other team on the planet that will give him a better chance at success than this one, and if the best defensive mind in the nfl sees something in you that means a lot
That has more to do with the teams Hartsock was on. They were all run first teams. I can't wait until they have another blocking TE. I'd rather cut him and pick up Becht if he's still out there. Hartsock ratio's of penalties taken to amount of snaps played is absolutely ridiculous. He even false starts quite a bit in practice. Even as just a blocking TE that doesn't do much, if he was really great at it he wouldn't have bounced around like he has. The Jets had no one else which is why he was/is here. I swear if he keeps getting false start penalties during the season I hope Westhoff runs out in the huddle and cuts him. Quite frankly, I'm surprised Jay Feely didn't try to kill him last year when he'd get called for a false start on a field goal attempt (in fact I believe one scenario last season he committed a false start on a 3rd and 1 or 2, they then came up short and then the resulting field goal attempt he had a false start that pushed them out of field goal range).
They are run first teams, and they know they need a guy like Hartsock to make the run game elite. It works both ways. Becht has bounced around the league too. And he'd be more expensive as a veteran. I'd rather go cheaper. Hartsocks penalties were at the worst times imaginable. And if the Jets wanted someone better they would have found one. This team does not hold back on spending for players when they need them. Ben is fine for now.
While that is interesting, you did also notice that in 2006, he appeared in6 games, and in 2008 he appeared in 11...(which BTW if trends continue this may be another short year. (Short,16 games,Short,16games), an almost Pennington like coincedence.
what're the practice squad rules? how many players on it? is it eight and currently just six signed? also, what's the rule for another team trying to sign someone from the jets practice squad? do the jets get a chance to match? thanks! e
Jenny Vrentas JennyVrentas RB Chauncey Washington was added to practice squad. So was DE Jarron Gilbert. #nyj

I'm thrilled about this. I would have taken him with a 2nd rounder because of his size, athletic ability and production in college. He must be unmotivated or lazy, hopefully being cut is his wakeup call and it works out for us. Clearly there is an unspoken issue with him. I thought we have had a lack of talent at the 5 tech. for years and this will probably be Ellis' last year.
