The sentimental attachment to shitty players for Jets fans is nothing new. Remember when we as a fan base thought Adrian Jones was the next great left tackle? Right before he got a million quarterbacks killed in the span of nine games.
Actually, as of right now, our WR corps looks like this: Davis Mims Crowder Cole Berrios V. Smith J. Smith L. Cager Josh Doctson J. Malone D.J. Montgomery Jaleel Scott I left the gap because I think the last 4 have almost no chance of making the team. I doubt that 8 WRs are kept so Cager or Berrios could be the odd man out. At this point I'd be surprised if the Jets draft a WR unless it's a slot to develop for next year, and guess that means one of the Smiths would go.
I remember a year or two ago Cole making one of the nicest one handed catches I’ve ever seen, and thinking this guy is going to break out. Guess it’s been tough to break out in Jax, but the talent is there. probs to anyone that can find a clip of that catch. It was a beauty.
I have no attachment to Berrios. I have a reversion to paying another Berrios 5.5 million dollars though. The real psychology is that JD made this deal, and in JD we trust, so it must be golden. Whatever...
Seems like the more WRs we sign, the further away we are from the possibility of drafting a WR in round 1.
I like the signing. He looks to be a good player, and is a good return man. I'm tired of seeing fair catches on punts. Cole averaged 15.6 yards per return and returned one for a TD vs GB. On KORs he averaged 26.7 yards and had a 40 yard return. The year before, he had a 59 yard return. I'll definitely take that.
Feels like with this WR corps that the offensive side of the draft will be focused on QB, TE and of course O Line. WR is no longer a big weakness on the Jets. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Cole has been in the league longer and has produced better than Berrios. Granted Berrios has only been in the league a couple of years. I’m not upset about the signing since it’s only for one year, maybe they want bigger receivers for their run schemes on offense?
I like this signing, especially if it means Berrios is gone. I was thinking about this guy a while ago when I read that he is first in catching contested passes over the last three years. Can play inside and out. Got some size and can return punts and play on special teams.
A drafted WR won't have the pressure of producing in 2021. Crowder and Cole will be FA's and it's nice to have a pipeline of capable replacements.
It seems apparent when the team kept fighting in the last 3 weeks that they’re good locker room. Despite having the worst coach in the league by far, the didn’t complain and showed up to play. Half the league would probably quit on Gase at that point but they didn’t.
I’d rather keep crowder than cole... I’ve been a big backer of JD but I got to say his signings have been underwhelming
I forgot Mims was also injured for a lot of games last year, could be another way for JD to provide quality depth.
Comparison to Barrios are ridiculous. In his rookie year he lead all receivers in his team with over 700 yards and was second in catches. Last year he bounced back and was second in receptions and yards. Smart, great blocker and can play outside or the slot. One year contract for a player with lots of upside. High motor kid adds much needed depth.
