The announcements were made by Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum. Smith (6'2", 189), who originally signed with the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted rookie free agent May 10, was waived Aug. 31. He played two seasons at Hofstra University, recording 61 catches for 951 yards and nine touchdowns after transferring from Nassau Community College in New York. As a Pride senior, he caught 60 passes for 951 yards and nine touchdowns and recorded four 100-yard games. Banks (5'10", 225), who was signed by the Jets on May 12 as an undrafted rookie free agent, rushed for 11 yards on five carries during the preseason before being waived Sept. 1. He finished his career third in James Madison history in rushing yards (2,694) and rushing attempts (551) and fifth in rushing touchdowns (28) and had 11 career 100-yard rushing games. Prall (5'11", 182), who signed with the Jets on June 14, was waived Sept. 1 and signed to the practice squad Nov. 6. He was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Arizona Cardinals on May 1 and was waived May 29. Hey, I have NO problem with Wide Receivers from Hofstra! Looks like this guys got 4 inches height on our last Hofstra superstar.
Chrebet was the exception to the rule Hofstra guys can succeed in the pros, but they have to be willing to work a lot harder than those guys who are just more naturally talented. Chrebet did that, and made the most of the gifts he had, hopefully that's the work ethic Smith will bring with him to the Jets
What about that Colston guy, eh? He's pretty good, too... Anyways, just another filler, maybe he turns into something, who knows.
