Yes, “maybe”. On the other hand Cleveland IS a starter. Next year we have Tomlinson, AVT (coming off yet another big injury), Mitchell and Tippmann. That wasn’t exactly shaping up to be a great line before the injuries hit, does it sound exciting next year? As you pointed out they have a lot of free agents coming up and not a lot of money to spend, the line is where they need to spend it. Otherwise we’ll just be just be having the same debates this same time next year
Bring out the smelling salts. People are losing their mind about not trading for Cleveland? I get the sentiment but the magnitude of the reaction is bizarre. Who knows maybe they tapped into COnklin for insider info and he told them Jets already had better guys on PS. It’s either hubris, or people who really enjoy complaining
Well did you enjoy the offensive performance from Sunday? some of us want to see our favorite team perform at a high level
^^^ you’re both assuming not trading for CLeveland was a bad move. YOu might be right. YOu might be wrong We have at least two former Viking on the team (Conklin and Cook), and i suspect a few folks in the FO who try to monitor these situations on a full time basis with input from the CS and FO. FOr all its faults the team is at least trending in a positive direction (compared to prior teams). AT least consider maybe they got that decision right. When guys are made available they’re made available for a reason. What was the reason behind Cleveland’s availability?
We all know Saffold is going to get hurt trying to lace up Duane Brown’s cleats in both their big returns. Brown ends up tripping and both go out for the season.
You're asking too much BN. Lower your expectations and things will look a lot better. This team never really had a chance offensively even with Rodgers as the overall talent level sans GW and BH is at best, old and mediocre. The defense never was the '85 bears no matter what DJ Reed thought. Zach Wilson, when using the Wilson Scale, is progressing. Don't make the mistake of grading Zach against other NFL QB's as then it starts to get considerably darker. We'll even leave the CS out of this conversation and the answer remains the same.
This is a fair take as it is very feasible.... "Hey guys, you played with Cleveland, what are your take on him?".... "That dude's an asshole!" Either way, the JETS are getting desperate in this department, especially with a team looking to maintain a winning record, so hopefully something shakes out for the positive
We better sign Trevor to the active roster for Monday's game because if Zach continues to get hit like he did last Sunday we may need 3 QBS to finish the game. In fact Three may not be enough.
An OL of Tomlinson, a healthy AVT, Tippman, and Mitchell isn't exciting, but it could be solid. The situation is what it is. Bringing in Rodgers removed a lot of options for JD in terms of improving the roster and specifically the OL. Becton may be back if he can improve against speed rushers. We'll see what we have in Carter Warren. McGovern may be back as the backup C. We'll have a 1st round pick, 3rd round pick, two 4th round picks, and a 6th round pick with which JD can, and hopefully WILL address the OL. The only other glaring needs we have are for a #2 WR and at least 2 more safeties to. Hopefully, JBC will prove that he can be one of those safeties, and they probably can re-sign Whitehead to an affordable deal. Maybe they can add Chuck Clark to an incentive-laden deal since he's coming off injury. If they activate and/or start giving Brownlee more playing time he could possibly prove to be that #2 WR. That's probably our only hope to upgrade the WR corps, as we won't be able to sign a qualty FA or trade for a quality WR unless we give away 2025 early picks. Now if JD only uses his first or 3rd round pick on an OL and drafts his normal BPA regardless of position, then I'll be pissed and calling for his head. He has to get a top-quality OT with is his first round pick, even if he has to use some 2025 draft capital with which to do it. He then needs to add at least one, if not two OGs and a C or an OG and an OG/C combo player with his 3rd and 4th round picks. If he can get that OT in round 1 without having to trade up, it would be huge. Then he could possibly trade up from the 3rd round pick into the 2nd round and get a top OG prospect that they can groom to replace Tomlinson in 2025. Then he can draft OL depth with one of his 4th round picks, maybe take a flyer on a S in the 4th round and then maybe use the 6th round pick on more OL depth.
Take a look into Zach's tape links below from last game. Zach has been consistently at B or C level since KC game. No longer F. He wasn't great, but a lot of problems with the offense were because of OLine allowing the pressure most of the time in short order and WRs not getting open. Sometimes it's Zach fault too, but a lot less than before. However, how can he develop without a good WR aside form GW and this OLine that keeps collapsing all the time? Hack can't just let him play free when the line collapses right away and WRs can't get open. Some of it is on Zach too but not all. This is why I wanted Cleveland, this is why I didn't want to give up Hardman or get someone else in at WR THIS SEASON. Yes, Hardman is not used now, but who knows what the future holds, we have 10 games left. Id' rather have him that 6th for 7th swap in 2025. If we could just get a little bit better in OLine and WR I think Zach could have stepped up too and even a little improvement in offense could go a long way. Hence the frustration with JD when I see other teams, like Jax, actually being able to address some of these issues and we can't. https://jetsxfactor.com/2023/10/31/ny-jets-zach-wilson-giants-problems-offense/
I mean hardman has been pretty awful for the chiefs. He has 3 catches for 19 yards, 2 drops on 5 targets, and muffed a punt. I never understood why people liked him so much. he's not good. I'd rather give those snaps to gipson and see what he can do.
