Obviously not the main reason, but he was a part of it. If you're a team like the Jets, who are predominately a suffocating defense with a strong running game and good receivers..a great punter is definitely ideal.
He was cut by the Giants who had no backup plan on the roster at the time....There was no other punter, they went out and signed some random guy after they cut him. What does that tell you...It tells me Quigley is worse then a washed up Steve Weatherford. The one thing about Weatherford is he stays in amazing shape so hopefully he is bitter about being cut and uses it as motivation and returns to form
They had no other punters on the roster at the time they cut him.....They went out and signed Brad Wing a UDFA....
I'm honestly surprised there is shortage of punters. Is it really that difficult? Honest question. IDK, it'd seem there should be plenty of rugby players who can kick the shit out of the pigskin. Not to mention soccer players, especially goalies, should be able to do it.
09 and 10 were two of his worst years. And pinning the opposing team behind the 20 is due to where the offense got him in the first place.
Played soccer most of my childhood and teens. Kicking a ball with any kind power and accuracy as your body develops is VERY hard. In fact, if you don't developed the basic skills by the time your in freshman in high school, you will never be a quality player. It's not like say being an offensive lineman, where if you have the physique and smarts, you can learn to do it. And while in the past, say the 70's and 80's, there was a market for good legs, the global game has just exploded and those dual sport players aren't there any more. The athletes I think have become more selective, earlier in their career.
If Quigly is hurt then why did the team wait until damn near the eve of the game to sign someone? I wonder who else they shopped for.
