For sure we have to get better against the run---we were horrible in most games. So bad that the addition of Whitehead could not possible make us "scary good". That's the inane aspect of the comment. Seriously, whoever said it is an ignoramus or a propogandist in the mode of Baghdad Bob.
I really hope he improves us against the killer screen. Man I hated seeing us play against screens last year. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
Whitehead will play SS I'm assuming so FS is open unless they want Joyner and Pinnock (and I guess Davis) to compete though I wouldn't be surprised if there's another addition at S
"Good signing for them after missing out on Marcus Williams" - this is spot on. Marcus would have been amazing, but Whitehead is next best FA S in my view, considering youth, production last year, upside, etc... Also Marcus signed 70 mil contract, while Whitehead 14. I really hope the money saved means we get additional studs. Maybe now Moses can be resigned, or something like that. I think next year is critical for the Jets. If the team can perform and show they can be a play-off team or at least on the cusp, next year's free agents may actually chose the Jets for the same price over some other teams. Then we can get some really big names without breaking the bank, like what Ravens did with Williams. We are still at least a year away though from that. The contracts we gave out are relatively short though, so the conversation with these top tier FAs may be different a year or two from now, we just need to get better. Whitehead will definitely help in that area.
Secondary was an issue last year despite some solid plays of some of our youth. But they desperately need more help in that area. don’t know too much about these two guys but I like that they are proven and still “young” that can more likely improve the secondary. Still want to draft a high end physical shutdown CB in draft.
How does this affect drafting Hamilton at 4 (if he's there)? I really don't know much about either player. Sounds like whitehead is more a run support/all around. Would it make sense to pair him with "ball hawk" type like Hamilton or is safety no longer a need?
I am actually interested to see what Jason Pinnock could do with more playing time at safety. He played the last few games of the season 2021 and did well.
I'm speculating that the Jets feel like the safety position is in a decent spot now. Getting Joyner back, adding Whitehead, and still having Pinnock, Davis, Riley, and Parks on the roster. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Joyner and Whitehead be our starting safety duo on Week 1. Also wouldn't surprise me to see them draft one on Day 2. There are a lot of guys that might make it to 35 or 38 that would compliment Whitehead very well. Daxton Hill, Lewis Cine, Jaquan Brisker, would all be excellent fits opposite of Whitehead.
11-time pro bowler Patrick Petterson is available. Maybe he could bridge the gap till they could find someone else.
I told you guys a year or two ago that we're on the verge of entering a golden age of Jets football thanks to JD. Our years of suffering and frustration are about to be rewarded with years of tears of joy!
