Folk was awful last year, but a change of scenery could Rexorcise his demons. I don't think a change needed to be made, but if we now have an extra million or two to throw at free agents, I'm okay with it. I do wonder what sort of competition they bring in though. I don't think it will be Feely as many of you are suggesting. I think Feely's gone.
i think Feely's gone too (surprisingly). And i agree on the change of scenery theory.....Folk has proven that he's capable of putting up elite numbers....i think Tannenbaum sees the value there.
Works both ways though. If Rex CAN'T fix his confidence, the trauma of a RR camp will probably end up making him a blubbering shankopotumus and we'll have to cut him anyway. I said it before, if we were to release Feely right now, he'd immediately be the best free agent kicker available. So why would we give him up?? I hate this move.
There was a reason Miami got rid of Feely after making 91% of his kicks. Not sure exactly what that reason was, but we picked up Feely after the 2008 season had already started. Nugent was our opening day kicker. If Folk bombs out, maybe we have a tough time finding a replacement, maybe we don't. But I have a lot of faith in Mike Tannenbaum. Apparently a lot of you don't.
1) Feely isn't being released...his contract is up. 2) He's NOT the best kicker on the Free Agent list...not even close.
Im not saying Jets would have won. Im just saying that the momentum was shifting towards Colts and when Feely missed the FG, Colts controlled the entire game afterwards. A FG would have kept the Jets infront by two scores. Entire outcome of the game would have been different. Maybe Manning feels the pressure and doesn't play as good? Cuz he certainly couldn't do much better from what he had done. Maybe Sanchez throws multiple picks? Likes I said, its a moot point to talk about it, but the momentum certainly would have been with the Jets. FYI, Im not too happy about the Folk signing either.
i have full faith in Tanny....the guy knows the meaning of the word "value". Some of the posters here think Feely is Jesus Christ......i liked him as our kicker too....but he's not the best in the land....not by a country mile.
im not buying the leverage angle, we have two franchise tags and a transition tag that are going to go unused i dont understand this move at all
Folk was awful in practices this year as well and its been reported all over the Dallas media. I never saw him kicking off the field, but the word is, he was at best a 50% kicker in practices as well. He has to be terrible in the department for the Cowboys to sign Suisham, who probably is worse anyways.
I liked what Feeley did here...but I always felt like he was one bad kick away from losing all confidence and being a disaster. Folk is clearly the more talented kicker and if he comes at a cheaper rate, this could be a great move. Let's remember that when we picked up Feeley he was coming from a situation not much different to that of Folk's current status. Additionally letting Feeley walk could allow for a decent free agency acquisition.
let's see how he does under Westhoff's coaching......you guys jump the gun here so quick....give the guy a chance. If he stinks it up...then i'm sure the Jets will get rid of him.
Ok, can we wait until Jay Feely actually signs with another team to bemoan this move? As of right now, we have one kicker with an expiring contract and another kicker who is a TC reclamation project.
We can't possibly franchise Feely. Destroys the whole purpose. He'd be making $2.8 mil this yr. We can pay him less than that for TWO years.

Problem I see is getting rid of Folk during the season and THEN trying to find a decent kicker. If Folk costs us one game, that could be the difference between playoffs/AFCE Title. Not sure if I wanna see that, but I guess we'd have to wait n see how it pans out. I am hoping he returns to his form of 2007 and 2008. This board will go nuts if that happens. It'll go nuts if it doesn't as well. So either way, we are going nuts lol.
Sucks big time if Feely rolls. This is a player that needs to stay. He's got the kind of savvy needed on a Rex led team. Come on Jets WTF????????????????????
