Maybe it's an insurance policy just in case things don't work out for some odd reason with Feely, God I hope not
I would've loved to have a been a "fly on the wall" at Folk's workout, just to see how he did......I honestly didn't think he'd be signed.
I liked Jay Feely too, but going 30-36 shouldn't give the guys in charge a reason to bring him back. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't amazing either. Folk struggled last season, but the year before he was arguably the best kicker in the league.
those FGs don't mean shit when the opposing QB has you by the balls. Feely is more reliable than Folk at this point.
QB has you by the balls? We could have taken a 3-0 lead after forcing Manning on a quick 3 and out. What are you talking about? Those 6 points were huge, come on man...
This is the point i was trying to make in other "Folk" thread......posters keep zeroing in on his collapse last season....but the season before, he was pretty good.
He had a weak leg in 2009. The Cowboys actually brought in a KO specialist rookie named Buehler to do that job in 2009.
In his first two seasons, Folk was 46 of 53. That's amazing consistency. Folk struggles in Dallas started around week 10 of this season when Jerry Jones made some shitty remarks and kind of threw him under the bus after he missed like two kicks. The added pressure of having an douche bag owner that is also your general manager breathing down your neck is probably tough.
Well, missing those field goals also gave Peyton Manning great field position twice. You can't leave points on the field...especially in the playoffs.
Over the last 3 seasons, Folk averages 22.3 yardline starting point, Feely averages around 24. So a little better KO wise with Folk.
I dont care if a kicker can hit a 50+ field goal every once and awhile... Folk misses the easy ones and those are the worst for a team to respond to.
we know how Tannenbaum likes to have backup plans before FA and/or the draft hits, this is just insurance IN CASE they cant resign Feely. It doesn't mean they've already given up.
I agree with this. When I first read the thread title I thought "good, maybe this guy will have a bigger leg for kickoffs." I don't know about you guys, but there were several kicks that Feely kicked off and I said "well that's pretty damn low" (opening kickoff against Bengals comes to mind). But just looking at some of the numbers you guys have posted, that doesn't seem to be the case. I am a Feely supporter, but I am not going to flip out even if he doesn't return. And no matter how good our kickoffs are, if our kickoff coverage (which was my huge disappointment of the season) doesn't improve, we will have the same ST issues with had this year next year. That discussion belongs in another thread though.
It's a kicker, you guys are nuts... Folk was a better kicker than Feely his first two seasons. If he reverts back to that form, at 25 years old, this could be an upgrade. Of course, it's also a risk because he did struggle so badly last season. But Feely was a kicker. Just because he liked to make tackles, was personable, and liked Rex Ryan doesn't mean he was a great kicker. He was solid. Hopefully, Folk will be solid. It's a bit curious, but it's a kicker. Come October, you won't care who is kicking, as long as the field goals go in.
