Huh? Im a little tired and confused right now, but isn't Pryor's strong suit to be IN the box? I never watched him in college but last year he was awful in coverage and played well in the box unless Im delirious.

Rex and his staff were not very good with player development other then defensive line I can't name one of position
people assume that because he hits hard and has struggled in coverage that means he's an in-box safety. not exactly, I think its a waste of all that speed to have him primarily jamming TE's at the line or something. he's physical but not that huge, and it doesn't solve his coverage issues it just gives him more pass coverage responsibility in a shorter amount of space and even less time to react to any given play. lets take the rangy safety and remove his greatest asset so he can be exposed more. because he hits hard. right. hes a better fit where he's the last hammer in run support and a quick step away from preventing a pass I say. he just hasn't developed the skills necessary for the job on a pro level, doesn't mean he won't. having the support he does NOW should give him more leeway to properly adjust.
Just to go off topic for one second, it's clear that Pryor was a waste of a pick and clearly not the best option at safety. The Jets, yet again got bamboozled. However I really like this signing
You make some good points and if Bowles can develop Pryor into a solid, if not topnotch, FS, then great! He's just got a lot of work to do on angles, tackling, and coverage. As long as they have a quality FS, I don't care if it's Coples.
I'm looking forward to seeing what Pryor can do this year now that the defense isn't depending on him as a critical piece as a young player. The Jets have all the pieces on defense now except an outside pass rusher. Very much looking forward to what they can do during the regular season.
Will never like the Pryor pick, but I think he will be much more effective in Bowles defense. Rex's defensive secondary calls were SUPER complicated, it is why we had so many "blown" coverages on critical plays. Bowles plays much more simply and will let Pryor use his athleticism and play fast. Corners are as important to Bowles defense as in Rex's maybe more but he uses them completely differently. Lots of man outside, but tons of cloud and zone based nickel and dime coverages underneath. Rex played cover 1 or cover 0 with man underneath a lot.
Totally knew secondary now. That's the end of Landry too most likely. I had previously been critical of Landry, and foresaw that he was most likely history, and an expert here scoffed at the notion of it, and saw fit to add an insult while he was at it, pointing how stupid some are, and how obviously brilliant he is. Couldn't have me be critical of Landry, Doosh, lmao We'll learn a lot more about Pryor, juries still out. HaHa Clinton-Dix didn't fare much better, but looks to be more of a Centerfielder. Prolly woulda been a better fit for us now. I think Bowles will be good for Pryor tho, so I'm hopeful
Regardless of how much cap $$$ was spent, Pryor & Millner's capabilities, the "painful" loss of future HALL OF FAMER DB, Kyle "No Style" Wilson (pffffft ), this & that we got ourselves a viable secondary that will compliment our front 7. No, it's not a perfect D but got-d@mn, it's a heck-uva lot better than what was thrown out there the past 2 years! REALLY, we had absolutely NO ONE capable to defend the deep pass which was why we had the dubious distinction of being 2nd in the ENTIRE league for allowing pass completions of 20+ yds or more!!! Good grief my fellow JET bruthas', who gives 2 $h!ts how much was spent on the backfield!!?? Why care whether Pryor (who played OUT OF POSITION- whose strength is playing close to the line of scrimmage for those hard hits) did not perform adequately giving the state of the Jet 2ndary! Or Millner; who still has as much to prove as Geno less the injuries! Be thankful for the HUGE upgrade! Mannnn, some of you good Jet-Folks just straight-up way over analyze things a bit too much!
I've seen enough from Pryor in the preseason that makes me think he will become a stud safety in the mold of a Polamalu in the future. It's just putting him in the right positions to make plays, coaching him up properly. Things Rex didn't do last year. And it'll probably help having experienced cover guys like Revis, Cro & Gilchrist around him so he can just focus on laying people out and not worry about trying to save our pass defense by himself.
The knock I have on Pryor is he takes some of the worst angles I've ever seen from a safety. Pryor was not a rangy safety in college, I don't know why that false info is being put out there in this thread. He has the speed to be that guy bit his awareness and bad angles are concerning for a FS role. I still believe he is a much better fit at SS, that's where he will shine most. We shall see what happens. I think it will be Gilchrist FS - Pryor SS
This right here, take away Pryor's need to make angles and set him loose at the line. The kid can hit like a bag of bricks he just needs to be coached up. I can see him being a force in the blitz game, big, fast and a punishing hit.
