OK if U wish to do the work tell who was available this off season that we could have sign & I will be happy to play coulda, woulda, shoulda with. Pls do not leave anyone out so that the it is a level playing field. I know Golden Tate was available for sure so with 1 stroke of the brush he is far, far, far superior player then JK.
I'm not talking about last season. I'm talking about who we could have signed this coming offseason that would be better than Kerley and as cheap as Kerley. Nevermind, you don't have any desire to have a logical conversation. You want to complain without providing a solution.
How do we have any way of knowing this yet? We have no clue who will hit the open market at season's end.
its a good re-signing, and the money is reasonable. for this season, i'd like to see Harvin, Decker and Kerley on the field together. Harvin can line up in the Z spot (hopefully primarily), while also lining up in the backfield, in the slot, and put in motion from any of the above. Kerley is best in the slot, but can also play the Z. If both are in the huddle, it makes us more unpredictable in terms of formation, and more difficult to just key on Harvin. If the D forgets about Kerley, he can definitely hurt you. for next season, who knows if Harvin or MM will even still be here. I'm hoping they are, which would mark the first time in ages the top 3 receiving threats and OC returned. This would bode well for Geno, or even a new QB for that matter. worse case, they are gone, but we still have a solid slot guy to work with.
We know who is supposed to hit the open market. That list is even bigger than the list of people who ACTUALLY will, so it should be easier to find people better than Kerley that will take the same amount of money. Go for it.
Not sure why you're getting so defensive. Players will be cut, and players will be re-signed. The open market will have players who we dont know of at this time. And we dont know what kind of money they will demand. Basically, you have no clue if we could have gotten a better value than we did for Kerley. I dont know either, thats my point. I have no problem bringing Kerley back as a number 4 or 5 receiver. Wes Welker Reggie Wayne Jeremy Maclin Eddie Royal Nate Washington Michael Crabtree Cecil Shorts This is condensed list of the current FA's at the end of the year. There are way more I didnt feel like writing down. Some are better than Kerley and some arent. Whose to say what these guys will command and whether or not Kerley was a better value signing. I'm not saying you're right or wrong, but to be so sure, seems short sighted. In short, neither of us know.
I'm not getting defensive. I just don't like when people bitch and bitch and bitch but provide no alternative. I'm not referencing you, btw. Welker - Old, injury-prone, will still command more than Kerley, makes 0 sense for a rebuilding team. Wayne - Old, injury-prone, will still command more than Kerley, makes 0 sense for a rebuilding team. Also will probably retire a Colt. Maclin - Will command top tier receiver money, honestly. Royal - Solid option. No arguments here. Washington - Going on 32. Not the kind of signing our front office is looking for. Crabtree - He's been bad this year, but will still command more money. Shorts - Jags are going to fight to keep him and will undoubtedly command more than Kerley. Here's the kicker with all of the guys you listed, and really and receiver out there. We can give Kerley the deal we gave him... and STILL go after these guys! That's really what bugs me about the 3 or 4 guys who are somehow offended by the Kerley signing. He's a solid receiver that we don't have to break the bank for. He doesn't have the role or contract that warrants us to put a hold on signing WRs either.
Amari Cooper, Decker, Harvin, Kerley, Jace, Ivory, CJ We'll finally have an offense if Geno gets them the ball :')
I'm sure you know better than anyone, that a lot of people here will bitch for the sole purpose to bitch. While Kerley isnt a star, I dont think you could really complain about the deal at all.
We have no idea what the breakdown of the deal is either. He may have lower cap hits early in the deal but higher cap hit later, at which point we can release him or extend him.
This is a bad signing, Harvin and him play the same position. Now we have $22M tied up next year in three WRs and I would say none of them are a true #1 WR.
Amari, Strong, White, Diggs hell any of those really good guys in rounds 1-2 and we are set for the next 4-5 years with young playmakers. I'd rather see us spend money on the OL and CB positions in FA than a 4th WR who will require much more money than what we'd be paying a rookie.
why? because they both play "in the slot"? theres more than one player in the slot on any play with 3 WR's and a TE, including the outside WR. hell theres more than one way of lining up Harvin, he and JK can easily co-exist in the same offense. theres not just this one slot receiver role reserved for WR's shorter than 6' feet contrary to popular belief.
We can't win unless we have a 6'4 plus WR that puts up great fantasy football numbers! it can't be done, all we have is a bunch number 2.45629284th of an inch 32 degrees Fahrenheit types at best! we're doomed!
if you want cooper..and cooper is a player i love..he will only be a jet if harvin doesn't work out..spending a top 5 pick on a wr who would be the #4 is not realistic
Lol I know right, I mean hey if we draft another receiver this draft even better - imagine having 4 reliable receivers and Amaro out there? Just get a QB that can make reads and find the open receiver and I think the offense will be in excellent shape. Just need to get that o-line up and running.
