The beauty of this is that we will have at least 9 games to if he is truly a deep threat that hasn't been correctly used in the past. Note MM comes from the same coaching tree as the coaches that coached him in MIN. So we will see.
http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/sto...k-jets-sign-jeremy-kerley-four-year-extension Glad to know he will be here for next 4 years. Congrats to Jeremy.
basically we cannot lose with this move. if harvin works out, we have 1-2-3 set. if he doesn't we can look for a 1/2 during the offseason, and if we cant find anything we will draft one. If Harvin doesn't play well, then we will probably be in the position to draft high. even better if he plays well and we can draft high, we can reconstruct the o-line. our priorities are cb and oline. drafting our own cb hasn't worked the last couple times (revis was our only real success, and thats one in a hundred). lets sign a good starting cb, an average starting cb (really dont trust millner anymore) , and sign some new oline.
So because Pete Prisco said so, it must be true? Come on man, he throws up a couple of irrelevant stats and it's the gospel? You can clearly see when he was a Viking, he was a deep threat, he was a home run threat, he was a explosive threat in general. If you think that Seattle used him wisely, you didn't watch those games. They misused him like crazy, treated him as a gadget player. I don't care what Pete Prisco thinks about him, if you have eyes, step away from the statistical BS, you can see he is much more than just a slot receiver. That reeked of number crunching BS just in an attempt to give his argument some form of credibility. He was used outside a lot for the Vikings, he was used in the slot as well. He was a natural fit on the outside for them to begin with though, then he learned to play on the inside at a high level as well, which opened up even more doors for that team. When you look at the team we have, to me, I see the layout with Harvin in the picture. You have Decker, outside guy. You have Kerley, inside guy. You have Harvin, who can play anywhere on the field. MM is going to find a way regardless to primarily have those three receivers on the field at the same time. Realistically, Harvin and Decker are our best WR now, already. MM is known to play the best players he has available to him, however he can, whatever the scheme. Harvin will be out there, outside or inside, doesn't matter. If he's not, it would be foolish.
I need to know more about Morningweg's system before I say this was a bad call. Morningweg is very creative with how he uses his players and I think Harvin will benefit the most from this. Does anybody have more knowledge on what Morningweg likes in his receivers.
I remember there was some mention of Amaro being able to lineup on the outside. Maybe we are going to start seeing some "4WR" sets. I'm happy to have him back but there need to be some solid cap numbers here because we still need a quality tall WR to the mix. If anything this signing probably puts the final nail in the coffin of getting anybody next year that isn't dirt cheap or a rookie. EDIT: Just saw the numbers on his deal, 4 per doesn't seem too bad. If Harvin works out and we could maybe re work that contract into a 6.5-7 per over 3 years and kick him a little guaranteed money.
well for those that wanted cooper or dez, dt or another high end WR... say goodbye.. decker, harvin, and kerley all making around 17 million combined. and taking up the 3 WR spots.... that sets up the core for the next 4 years..unless harvin is really a 9 game lease expect the offseason to be about a. fixing the secondary b. the oline or c. if geno doesnt work out, getting a new QB who gets to walk in with weopons to throw 2
This signing IMHO is why the NYJs will never be a elite team. Resigning a just average player instead of looking to upgrade the position is just plain silliness
I'd like to think this is the case. And yet I have the nagging suspicion the Jets won't be able to help themselves but use Harvin as a gadget player. Its kind of what the Jets do.
Well not for nothing, it would be kind of dumb to NOT use him as a gadget player considering how effective it is. I think the fact that Harvin made it clear he wasn't happy with that role in Seattle and then flat out said he wants to get downfield more will force the Jets to make him a receiver again, if for some reason they weren't already.
Good for JK. Very solid signing. All Kerley does is produce when given the opportunity. He's a very good #3 NFL WR.
Good signing. They need some depth stability on this team. He'll never be the "go-to" guy but he has shown he'll make plays as long as we have some other competent WRs on the field drawing DB's attention
