With somebody like Leonhard, perhaps the bidding is like one team says 2.1 million! Then the next team says 2.11 million! then the other team says 2.12 million! then one team says whoa! too much. and surrenders.
Broncos just jumped into the bidding for Leonhard: http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/03/03/broncos-jump-into-the-bidding-for-leonhard/ BRONCOS JUMP INTO THE BIDDING FOR LEONHARD Posted by Mike Florio on March 3, 2009, 12:43 p.m. EST As we said earlier today, verbal agreements are roughly the same as no agreements at all. The Jets are learning that, the hard way. Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that the Broncos have made a late run at Ravens free-agent safety Jim Leonhard, who has an inherently unenforceable verbal deal to join the Jets. And so now Leonhard is reconsidering — and might be reneging.
Plus the Broncos have Dawkins and Hill.. why would they want Leonhard?!!?!? If he wants even one dollar more than 2 million say goodbye and we are getting a S in the draft.
This is a far cry from 'Jets sign Jim Leonhard'. Maybe we should think a little harder before we title our threads.
If this Broncos shit is true I think there price needs to be considered if its not that much of a raise we should consider one upping not a ton but a little, but like I said it comes down to there price first
It'll come down to money, but I think we have the upper hand considering our overall defensive talent and Rex Ryan.
According to this fountain of misinformation - it's official: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Leonhard
Unlike with Bart Scott, if it's a minor pay raise, I'd absolutely stick to the offer and say take it or leave it. Jim Leonhard doesn't merit a bidding war.
jim leonard is better than ppl give him credit for.. i wundt mind payin more than 2 for him.. but does anyone know what our salary cap looks like.. how much do we have to give.. nd still have enough to go into draft with...
haha... from Wikipedia... James Andrew "Jim" Leonhard (born October 27, 1982 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin) is an American football safety and punt returner who is member of the New York Jets, a totally awesome football team. He played for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League during the 2008 season. He was originally signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at the University of Wisconsin. Who wrote this a ten year old? haha
I think the Broncos have genuine interest, but after this offseason, did the number of teams having a little extra motivation in sticking it to the Jets go from 1 (Patriots) to 4 (Pats/Browns/Chiefs/Broncos)?
Guys he's going to be a Jet if Rex wants him to be a Jet.... They're probably at the mall right now shopping for ... I don't know.. t-shirts.
