I think Brodney will play pretty well for us but if he gets injured, that's definitely a possibility with Eric Smith the only backup. The fact that it's already been determined that Warren will play FS it sounds like Rex has a plan for this kid.
You tell me, your the draft guru. No lie, the few times I watched Michigan play I told myself this kid would be a good safety in the NFL.
Maybe the Mark Carrier hiring is turning out to be a blessing in disguise. He was a 3-time Pro Bowler and Defensive Rookie of the Year at FS. He's also Donovan Warren's godfather.
2007 Freshman All-American Team Very Interesting...click the link to see http://recruiting.scout.com/2/705470.html 1st Team Notables QB: Sam Bradford RB: Knowshon Moreno RB: LeSean McCoy WR: Michael Crabtree WR: Jeremy Maclin TE: Rob Gronkowski DE: Everson Griffin S: Eric Berry CB: Donovan Warren 2nd Team Names I know: Rolando McClain, Maurkice Pouncey, Kareem Jackson, Morgan Burnett, Arrelious Benn, Anthony Davis. Joe Haden was an Honorable Mention
i hope this guy does great and is on the team for a long time so i can buy his jersey since we have the same last name and first initial.
Just seeing his name on that list gets you excited. Everyone one of those guys on that list is either a stud in the NFL, or was a top prospect in the draft recently. Worst guy on there is Griffen and people wanted us to take him in the first. Not too shabby. Just gotta wonder though who we get rid of for him.
Hmm nobody really brought this up. But I was looking at Warrens stats and all that and hes only 178 pounds. Where as many of the other safeties that I looked up are 20-40 pounds heavier (IE Rhodes was 220, Sharpers 210, Reeds over 200) How much of a difference do you think its gonna make when it comes to tackling and making plays with him being that much lighter? This aint college anymore so could this be an issue? Obviously theres NO way he can gain even almost that much mass by the season, but he only is 21 and has a ton of growth and development ahead. How much will this hamper him in the short term ? And it also makes me wonder how itll effect his speed when hes another 20-30 pounds heavier. (And since I dont feel like triple posting. When he tried out for college recruiters coming out of high school .. attended Polytechnic High School and coached by Raul Lara... ran 40 in 4.4 seconds and clocked a 10.6 in the 100m dash. Maybe hes capable of the speed after all)
My personal feeling is that size isn't quite as important at the FS position as it is at the SS position, and with the league becoming more and more pass oriented and safeties being looked at more and more for their coverage skills than their run defense size is becoming abit less important overall at the position. That said, for my strong safety I still want someone over 200, but at FS I'm okay with around 190 or more.
Kid looks like he really enjoys laying people out. With that said, looks like he has some great tackling skills.
Hmm...that's because it's bullshit. Don Warren weighed 193 at the combine. Ed Reed was probably about 185 to 190 when he entered the league. He's 200 pounds soaking wet.
Man that sounds like a high degree of confidence. What gives such a degree of confidence in a UDFA? If he is good enough to be a contributing player let alone start, that is a home run for the Jets. I am interested in your analysis, I am not asking to be a douche...........
Warren is just a good player. I think he fits into this scheme perfectly at free safety. If Brodney Pool ends up getting injured, Warren should be the guy that fills that spot. I think a lot of Warren's inconsistency at Michigan were because of poor coaching from Rich Rodriguez's staff full of idiots. Under Ron English, one of the nation's best defensive coachces at the time, Warren was an All-American.
Nail right on the head. Warren was never a fit for Rodriguez's 3-3-5 but he's too inflexible to adjust his schemes to his players. That's why you get guys like Steven Threet running a spread offense.
Oh I was only talking about the first round notables. Guys like McCoy, Maclin, Crabtree, Moreno who have already proven they can be successful in the nfl their rookie years and will likely build upon it. Then you got guys like Berry and Bradford who people are expecting to be super superstars. I just honestly dont think Griffen will be as successful as any of those guys.
Hmm yeah just saw that weight on nfl.com but they also have him at 5'11. Guess ill trust their numbers over some of these other sites
