He may be. He's only had 24 starts over his first 4 seasons so its not a huge sample. Don't get me wrong, I've been bitching about a lack of depth on our roster for years. I'm not unhappy, just a little puzzled about our direction. If we take a 1st round corner, or even a 2nd rounder, where does that leave him? Our draft is changing before our eyes.
Again another player that has a history with our staff, showing they know more already about the player, which should help him play to his contract. For those wanting Sauce, this doesn't take him away from us. This means that if we take sauce at 4 or 10, that means that we want sauce, not that we need a CB. BPA. Not a huge sample, but he's a young guy with experience in a similar system who has played for our HC at another spot. It's the kind of move that checks all the boxes. I think that's a good thing though. Someone mentioned it already but this is just JD giving himself some flexibility going into the draft so we don't have to reach and draft Sauce at 4 if we don't think he's worth that. Remember, this contract is, most likely, a 1-2 year deal in terms of guarantees so even if we drafted a CB in the 1st or 2nd, this contract will be off the books by the time we have to make any long term decision on them.
It's changing in a good way. We don't have to worry about taking Sauce at 4 (even though I want to) and then not having a starting quality corner.
I'm not against competition, but Hall should go into camp as a starter. He was one of the bright spots on an a bad defense last year.
I don't disagree with you at all. Regardless, having a top 4 CB rotation of Reed, Hall, Echols, and MC2 going into the draft is fantastic. Plus, it doesn't sound like this move excludes us from taking Sauce if he's there at 10.
I see your point. But remember when everyone was proclaiming how amazing that we got 6 starters last draft. In reality all of last years DBs are becoming backups, which is what some of us always knew they were. I guess I just got sucked up in that hype a little. What we are seeing now is the shine starting to fall off of last years draft.
It looks like JD is finally building a roster to actually try and make play-offs this year. Reed is not a flashy signing, like Marcus Williams would have been, but a really good get, and JD didn't cheap out either. The price is a good and player is good in the position of great need.
Huh? Wilson AVT Moore MC1 MC2 Echols Only one of those guys is at risk of not being a starter and if he isn't, it's because there are two really good corners ahead of him.
