Found this about Skrine on Reddit.... He's penalty prone, but crazy fast. I think his problem was his catch up speed is too quick that he hits the receiver too early sometimes, but we had him for his bad years. He went from being my most hated corner to one of my favorites. They'll try to pass all over him because you got Revis, but he can make plays, and he's scrappy. He won't give up too many huge plays, but the pass interference penalties might give you headaches, but I think it's coachable. You'll be pretty happy with him.
Buster Skrine Jets deal four years, $25M, $13M gtd, $3M bonus, salaries $1.5M, $6.5M, $6M, $6M; $2M roster bonus 2015, '15, '16 salaries gtd
Really you want to lead with that LOL. I guess you forgot about the double digit penalties he committed. Boy the Jets bar is set real, real, real, real low. No wonder we just settle for anything.
Yeah he gets penalties but it's because of how super aggressive he is, which we need from a slot corner. I'd take a defensive holding any day over a slant reception by Edelman for 20 yards that gives their offense momentum. He's no penalty prone because he is making up for flaws in his game he is penalty prone because he bullied receivers
Habitual penalties is unacceptable. Might as well kept Kyle Wilson. I thought the game plan was to improve areas not sign someone who does the very same and expect different results.. He is being paid great money with 13 million guaranteed so don't you think as fans we should expect better? Quarterbacks will just target him constantly because we know they aren't going Revis way. That scenario will get real old real quick.
Contract details: http://overthecap.com/player/buster-skrine/270 http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-york-jets/buster-skrine/ a 3 million dollar signing bonus, 2 mil roster bonus, and 8 million in base salary make up his garuntees. the biggest cap hit is next year at over 7 million. its 4million this year (maybe some 2015 space is used on Cro?) we save 6 million by cutting him in 2017, but are otherwise tied to him through next year. we must be bullish on this guys potential, if he's legit and keeps growing next to DR we might have a steal, what with the overpriced CB market *cough*
I don't think he will ever play the outside, if Rex was right about anything it is that you need a starter level dback in the slot, and that is exactly where Skrine is going to spend his Jets years
The guarantee and cap charge for year 2 are surprising. For better or worse, it looks like he is going to be one of the top 10 highest paid players on the team?
he is now the 17th highest paid corner in the nfl...that is insane..if i had time..i would name 60 corners better then him
Can some of you guys who are saying we may as well have kept Wilson please elaborate on your viewpoint? I assume if you're going to jump in and say that this was a bad move and that we should have kept Wilson, than you probably have some research at your side. I would love to see what people think. If its because of volume stats (such as total penalties committed), you should delve a little deeper. Today has been an extremely slow work day, so no one judge for me the research I've done. All of this information is based on 2014. I'll probably go back and 2013 and 2012 later because I like working with excel. Buster Skrine committed 11 penalties in 1129 defensive snaps played. That's a percentage of .97%. Kyle Wilson committed 5 penalties in 308 defensive snaps played. That's a percentage of 1.62%. Almost double Skrines.... Buster Skrine had 4 INT's for a rate of 1.3. Kyle Wilson had 0 INT's for a rate of 0. Buster Skrine had 18 Pass Deflections for a rate 5.84 Kyle Wilson had 2 Pass Deflections for a rate of .65% I mean Buster Skrine looks like a much better player, but I'm open to any argument that favors Wilson. I'm just not seeing it.
Doubt it, but having a good slot CB is key in the secondary. W/ the increase in cap as the years go on, there is nothing wrong with this acquisition.
Skrine was playing on the outside and apparently had some trouble with the bigger WR. I'm guessing its like what some of you guys are thinking and he'll be playing inside against smaller quicker guys like himself. The slot WR plays such an important in todays NFL you need a high quality player there.
you need 3 starting conrers in the NFL... ESPECIALLY if in this division and ESPECIALLY if you blitz as much as our head coach does. with cro/skrine you now have 2 guys you can trust on the outside if you want to throw revis in the slot on someone like gronk or julius thomas. or guys you can trust to cover if you want to move revis all over the field. 2 TE sets are a thing of the past for the most part, and when you see them those TE are usually split out as pass catchers. you need 3 corners on the field on most situations today. every down is a passing down. Bowles played 5 DBs more then 4 DBs last season. for me 3rd Corner is more of a starting spot then a 3rd LB
i can live with penalties, i cant live with getting burnt and giving up huge plays. look at how penalized browner was last year, or sherman for that matter.
Have you seen the slot WRs in the NFL today? most of them are big... or even Tight ends. there are edelmans too, but now you just hae a big 3rd guy there doing damage. i think skrine will see time outside and inside. alot of teams best threat is a slot guy, in those cases i think you see revis in the slot on them. Revis is going to lock down their best guy, thats why its good to have 2 other starting corners, to matchup where they need.
