At this point I'd say to hell with not wanting to pay Revis whatever he wants (not my money) and would love either a Revis +Cully or Browner tandem. If they go with Browner as the #2, I wouldn't be opposed to drafting Marcus Peters or Jalen Collins to eventually take over.
im looking at PFF, and it's actually 17 times. still, that put him at most penalized corner in league. little concerning..
By advanced metrics, do you mean penalties? Let me say, there's a reason he was 4th in the NFL in PDs and 5th in INTs. There were a LOT of passes thrown his way. He more than held his own. That happens when Haden is on the other side. Also, if you were able to watch all the penalties that were called on him, you might agree with half. And if by "Advanced metrics" you mean PFF rankings... hoo boy don't get me started on them. They are in way over their head. I think people liked the idea, and they started trying to deliver more and more... now it's a house of cards and is going to crash ugly.
Thanks for the insight CleveSteve! So basically if the Jets get Revis your saying Skrine can hold his own.
Yes, he started at outside corner in base and was inside in the slot quite a lot in sub packages. Eventually K'Wuan Williams started playing really well and Buster stayed outside all the time. When Williams got hurt he came back inside in sub packages again. Just some additional info.
He was a bit better this year, yes. But this was mostly because he couldn't play any worse than the years before. And he also got worse again at the end of the season... I often don't agree with some writers, but Brian Bassett is right on the money with this: "Some might argue, that Skrine got better as the 2014 season went on under former Jets DC Mike Pettine. That assertion is false. He had a brief stretch in October and November where he posted some fair games against foundering offenses, but by the end of the season he reverted to his regular form, posting two of his five worst gradings in the final three weeks." I absolutely hate this signing. 4 years for 25 millions: That's starter money. That's terrible news. I just hope, Milliner stays healthy for the whole season and were are able to get some others player who will push BUSTer Skrine down the depth chart...
Yeah I think this is a good point. You are getting a guy who is used to having to deal with his side being the targeted side, and playing well. JMO.
bowles also loves to use several DBs. i think arizona used 7 last year this is what free agency is about. players sometimes get overpaid and the stars can get severely overpaid. if we get revis, this could seriously help our team
FWIW: Drew @DrewfromJersey 17m17 minutes ago Buster Skrine had more picks and pass defended in 2014 than Kyle Wilson had in his entire #Jets career for fans making silly comparisons.
Not sure if this was posted, but a recent writeup on Skrine. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2015/03/how_buster_skrines_gamble_a_ye.html
