Big difference. When a plyer plays on a special team he always plays on it. Starting QBs are generally not thrown into games with the freshmen... BTW... BB took alot of crap in the local media about having Gronk on the special teams there...
Nope. No difference at all. Why play Gronk in garbage time meaningless minutes? It's the exact same argument as people asking why play Sanchez in a meaningless preseason game against the 2s. Sanchez was not the starting QB, he was in a competition for the job and had played with both 1s and 2s throughout TC and the preseason. Funny now that he's hurt people are treating him like Peyton Manning. Oh yeah, Sanchez getting hurt is ruining the team!!!! He was such a great QB!!! Sorry but it's hypocritical for people to blame Rex for that and then not blame BB for a similar infraction.
To be fair, that's completely irrelevant to the conversation. If you blame Rex for getting Sanchez hurt, you HAVE to blame BB for getting Gronk hurt. Both times were players playing when they didn't have to during meaningless situations. If not it is double standards.
^I'm well aware of that, it's hypocritical, however, and only proves the double standards in the media. Even when the Jets were winning in 2010 they were still heavily criticized. If the Patriots have an off year, I guarantee they won't get bashed like the Jets.
Of course there's a difference! Gronk was the regular guy on the special teams doing that job. Just pulling him or anyone and replacing him with a scrub could get your kicker hurt.
Barcs, it was really the opposite. Ryan and the Jets were media darlings in 2010. Rex was brash, loudmouthed, and gave the media as many quotes as they could handle. On top of that, the Jets were winning. The media LOVED Ryan and the Jets then. Now, sadly, they just love to bash them. I remember lots of people saying in '09 that Ryan would be beloved in NY as long as the Jets win, but his personality will be piled on mercilessly if he doesn't. Right or wrong, we are seeing that now. I'm with you as far as the media being ridiculous with their negative coverage right now. It's comical.
After that game why would anyone outside of Jet-nation think they were gonna beat the Pats? When you get beat like that you're gonna be judged by the media as not being good enough. That's just the way it is. It isn't just the Jets, it's most any team... That's just the fickle nature of media and fans... Every year the Pats start out 3-2 or 3-3 and the national media and some local scribes jump on the "It's finally over for them" wagon. One of these years they'll be right, but they haven't been yet. Maybe they (and I) will be dead wrong about the Jets this year. Stranger things have happened.
How were they bashed the rest of the season? They went to the AFCC Game and were everyones favorite flavor right through the following post season.
