I'm wondering what is really behind this move? I just can't see it I understand the concern about Sanchez, I'm supportive of the uncertainty with Geno, I can even deal with the worries about starting Simms. But why is Brady an option at all if the rest of them fail? Are there no better QBs out there than can both mentor Geno and come in and play if the necessity strikes?
Brady Quinn is comparable to Sanchez except... A) He doesn't cost 8mill/yr and B) Doesn't have a "butt fumble" on his resume...
You don't see what's behind this move because there is NOTHING behind it. We swapped 4th string QBs. That's it. I don't think the motive is to find someone to mentor Geno. And if there was someone out there that could mentor a young QB and then step in and be better than him if need be... don't you think he'd be signed? What other QBs are out there that you're referring to?
Maybe the idea is to surround Geno with a bunch of QB's that suck more than he does to boost his confidence? LMAO
I know, 4th string QBs are serious business. I mean, only 3 QBs have to go down in order for Quinn to play. ONLY 3. We are really playing a dangerous game here relying on Quinn to save our season should 3 quarterbacks already get hurt.
Yeah D.Carr and VY are far better. I know young wants to start but Carr would be fine backing up geno or mark.
What you are missing here is Quinn is being brought in like Harrell to audition to be the 2nd string QB not the 4th string QB. Geno is set as the 1st string and Simms as the development 3rd string QB. The Jets need a short term (next few weeks) and season long 2nd string QB. That is why Quinn is here and why Harrellwas kept on the roster. Will he impress well enough to fill either of those roles? Harrell did not. But it is not like there are many other options available. if a guy like Campbell got cut by Cleveland there might be a more suitable option. But there isn't one there. If Quinn passes the muster which is questionable the next question is then what becomes of Sanchez? Is he immediately cut? IR? Do they hold on to him hoping they can trade him before the deadline by eating all or most of his salary? I guess it depends on how committed they are to Geno and how much of a disruption they think keeping Sanchez around will be.
Supposedly Quinn had a really good camp in Seattle where I am sure Idzik still has people who talk to him but they decided to go with only two. I am guessing they kept Harrell this long in hopes they could trade him back to Green Bay who was down to only one until this morning. I am sure they think Quinn is better than Harrell so there is "something" behind this.
Quinn worked with our QB coach David Lee in the 2011 offseason. Quinn has started a few NFL games. Simms and Smith have 0 NFL starts between the two of them. It's nice to have a QB on your roster for opening day that has actually started a game before. Quinn struggles with his accuracy, his career 53.8 completion percentage is actually lower than Sanchez's 55.1 but Sanchez has had much more talent to work with. Quinn managed to complete 56.9 of his passes with the Chiefs last season, which is still pathetic, but better than Sanchez's career best of 56.7 in 2011. Quinn is much better for this team than graham harrell.
We don't have 4, we have 3. Sanchez is hurt and out for an unknown amount of time. If Geno Smith gets hurt in week 1, then you're left with just Simms. The Jets needed an upgrade at backup QB/QB3, preferably someone with starting experience.
did you read the rest of my post or just the last line? or are you just playing on the fact i said quite a few but only listed 2 things.
