Obviously he can't play anything for Carolina as he didn't even make the final cut. Why then do we think he can play anything for us or are we saying somebody else's rejects are better then anything we currently have? Probably are. I'll be he's cheap though and that's all that matters with this team.
That's some casuality. He couldn't make 2nd string, 3rd string, special teams or even the taxi squad. He has sat around for a month since the final cuts and not one of the other 31 teams has any interest in him at all and he is going to fix our woes on the OL? I kind of doubt it.
Good point. He wont start any time soon, but i feel he may step in for Clarke if he truly goes to hell.
And that's the sad point I was making in my prior post. Is somebody like this being cionsidered better then anybody we currently have to the point where they may replace them? There is a trading deadline in the NFL, 10/19 I think. If we are admitting we need help on the OL then we should be out there trying to trade for somebody. I'm sure there are better people available if we are willing to pay for them.
I agree, he probably isn't all that great. But the depth on the line sucks and there is bound to be an injury. I think this is more a "we need another fatass body incase someone goes down" signing. But who knows, he might surprise everyone, but I doubt it.
Theres nothing hotter then a Woman with Football knowledge and a burring yearning for the Jets! You are a Jets fan??
It's official!!! Jets sign Will Montgomery to the active roster September 19, 2007 -- The New York Jets have signed OL Will Montgomery to the active roster. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum. Montgomery (6-2, 312, Virginia Tech) was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round (234th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. He appeared in seven games for the Panthers in 2006, starting three games at left guard and one game at right guard. He was waived by the Panthers on September 2, 2007.
he might be able to help us " down the road " . i doubt he will contribute much right away. if - IF he does ; great.
Started 4 games as a rookie from the 7th round? That's a pretty good effort. I'm happy enough about it, he seems solid. Weight wise anyway.
BTW, to the extent that some people are concerned that he was available on the open market with the season already underway, it MAY have something to do with the fact that over the summer he was involved in something of an accident here in Blacksburg. I don't remember when exactly this happened, but basically the story was some girl was driving through the downtown area and text messaging, and she hit several pedestrians, including Montgomery. Nobody was killed, but I can imagine how being hit by a car might keep you off an NFL roster for a short period of time.
