Exactly. It's unreasonable to think he'd take any sort of pay cut as his play hasn't really slipped significantly (if any). If he's truly serious about signing with Revis and Rex, so bet it, but I think price tag and ego (making him the highest paid CB again) will get the better of him.
I think the Giants could sign him simply to give Francessa something to talk about. Hopefully that rumor will get some legs, so that when the Jets close the deal and fulfill Nnamsomugeddon, the streets will flood with the tears of the non-believers. And the rape-loving Giants fans.
When the Giants are rumored to be in the lead for Aso: Francesser: Dis guy is awl world! He's better than duh....what's his name for da Jet? Uhh...oh yea Darnell Beavis. Yeah he's much better than dat guy, you put him on da Giants da ah gonna be unbeatable When the Jets close the deal bringing Aso to the Jets: Francesser: Wat a clown ohganization da Jets ah! Dis guy is way ovah da hill!
Giants sign him: "The guy is a philanthropist!" Jets sign him: "Waitasekent, am I readin this right Mink..da guy is a "full on rapist" ??? No class deez Jets!"
All I know is, spending a 1st and 2nd round pick on the cornerback position should be enough for now. Only way this happens is if Aso comes cheaper than Cromartie.
Bringing in Aso for anything more than what we would pay Cromartie would be a mistake in my opinion. We need to free up cash to sign a corner, David Harris and at the very least Santonio (though I would really like to bring back Braylon as well).
There are several things that are clear: 1. Aso wants to play for a winning team. 2. Aso has said he wants to play with Revis 3. Aso liked playing for Rob. 4. Rex LOVES corners 5. The Jets have a spot for Aso So, it's not ridiculous to say this is a perfect match. The only question is how much of a magician is Tanny to be able to keep Harris, a wr (I dont think both guys will be back the more I think about it, and both are not needed with Cotch here), Smith or Pool, and then a Hunter and Smith. I think that if it is even remotely possible, Tanny will find a way because NA is the perfect player for this team. And, lets be real, anyone saying that you still dont have pass rushers. Do you actually need them when very few teams have more than 2 good wr's, and NA and Revis can flat out shut out any 2 wr's. Ellis, Pace and the 30th pick should provide enough pressure to make the defense flat out filthy with NA.
You forget: 6. The Jets have a really tight cap situation this off season. So it is ridiculous to say this is a perfect match.
I think Revis/Wilson as corners, and the ability to keep Harris, Braylon, and Santonio (which, let's face it, is going to be tricky anyway) is a far better plan than to blow money on Aso and lose one or two of those three.
NA and the Jets are a perfect match if NA makes serious concessions which we don't know if he's willing to.
I know Rex is a defensive guy, but I'd like to see some focus on solidifying Sanchez' weapons. I expect a big year from him next year and with Holmes here this year, already great chemistry with Braylon and Cotch, our offense could really be dominant. IMO, we need a few key guys in Rex' defense and just let Rex do the rest. Look how well we did when we lost Jenks, Pitoitua, and Revis right off the bat.
We can be pretty sure he's not willing to-no player in the history of football has made concessions like the ones we're talking about.
I mentioned this before. I think price would get the better of him (in FA he'll surely become the highest paid CB again), and sign on with the biggest contract.
Signing Asomugha would either be the smartest or stupidest move the Jets could make. There is no grey area on this kind of deal. If he comes here, there'll be 30 million locked up in the CB positions. For all we know the opposing qb's will just pick on WR3 and 4 all day.
You have to continue to count on the growth of Kyle Wilson too. I also mentioned this before. Stopping the Pats (which should be our main focus) means stopping their TE's and getting consistent pressure. Their are other ways to improve that than spending a truckload on Nnamdi.
I agree with this. Getting Asomugha is a luxury that is not worth the price when it comes at the cost of other key players (Harris, Edwards, Holmes). Unless he's willing to go south of the 10 million a year mark, there's no point in getting him.
