I've always wondered how many deals work that way. Like someone signing for 6 million a year and then the owner throwing 2 million at him off the books so his numbers fit better under the cap.
I have no basis for this claim but my guess would be that the team could arrange for some sort of special endorsement that the player otherwise couldn't get on their own.
I dont think this happens, it would be illegal. The auditing is probably air tight so I cant see how this could be pulled off.
yeah it's illegal as hell. has anybody ever done this, and gotten caught? news wise? they would have to give it to them in straight cash, and pray the dude doesnt put it in the bank. im sure there are also several other things that goes into this.. but if i was an owner, i would look to do this shit with players like Cromartie. hell there could be an owner right now, contacting players illegally of course, and throwing them a couple hundred thousand to stay.
haaaa.....wish we could do it too. But the risk isnt worth it. I think the NFL would look at that as one of the most major violations if you got caught. I could see losing multiple high draft picks after that and the embarrassement to the team would be damning in the public eye and around the league by blatantly breaking the rules. Agents, players etc. would never keep it quiet and it would blow up in the owners face. To answer your question Faulk, I don't remember anyone getting caught doing it or even suspicion of it but maybe someone remembers differently.
As much as I would like to see Aso in green I think we need to get Braylon and Holmes back before we start going after others.
Nnamdi is a great guy with a wonderful personality i could see him signing for less than Revis and having no problem with it just to play on a good team and grat coaches that he will love playing for this will also make revis think twice about holding out in a year or 2 again because now he is expendable (kinda lol) anyone ever saw nnamdi on the Mike & Mike in the morning show?
