I get your point, but I disagree. If there's a kicker or punter you really like, it's best to take them in rounds 6 or 7, maybe even round 5.

To many games late in the season rely on field position. Punters>Kickers. And a great defense needs a Punter if your offense is sub par I.E Jets

Just one more point to prove Mac was drinking Johnny Walker Red the whole draft.

I wondered the same thing. Drafted players have no say in where they go, but UDFA are free to go anywhere and negotiate their own contracts. It's actually better to be signed as an UDFA than as a 7th rounder. Maybe that played into it somehow?

We got a kid with an 80 yard cannon for a leg and he's a big(6'4) which means he might able to be a good last of defense in case someone breaks away.

I wish Idzik had drafted nothing but Kickers and Punters with every pick in 2014. It still would have been better than what he did that year with the exception of Pryor and Amaro.

Sorry, but methinks you're getting the two punters confused. Hackett is the one with the longer punts and he's only 5'10", 198 lbs.

    Edwards is 6'4", 209 lbs.

Ah, my bad. Hadn't seen that clip. I knew that Hackett had a number of punts around 60-70 yards, and thought you might have been confusing the two.

That's nice to know about Edwards. Hopefully he can get his gross yardage average up if he wins the punting job.

It would be lovely to have a punter who is more than a stopgap. One who is a weapon. Hope that is the case.

I think Hackett's style, which has a very low trajectory, probably scares teams. He could get away with it in college but may not be able to in the pros.

both are important. a great kicker goes a long way. how many games come down to a GW field goal attempt? how many enormous kicks has folk hit for us? we dont make either AFC championship game without huge kicks. not to mention a guy who booms a touchback every time is nice as well.

punter is huge too, but there is alot more forgiveness to punting. its not miss or make, its more disaster or not diaster. sure there are great puts but its more an added bonus with less on the line.

that and Hackett takes an hour and a half to get the ball off. He takes the snap, checks the time and his twitter feed, may or may not tie his shoes, then veers to the right before kicking it lol. Idk anything about this Edwards kid tho

Hackett's tape is really good, but that 80 yard bomb from Edwards... the ball just floats in the air for so long. It's incredible, really. Hoping that the Jets release a lot of TC video of the punting competition. Should be a good, if not great, showing. Hopefully, it'll translate into no kicks of less than 20 net yards in 2016-17 and beyond.

Yes I am not gonna take away from the Kicker being clutch in moments of victory. But in a game in it's entirety can be controlled by always pinning the opponent behind the 10

Not when he punts the ball regular style. He only takes longer when he kicks the ball rugby style and runs 3-4 steps to the right. IMO it's amazing to see him run to the right and then kick the ball a country mile to the left side of the field. I don't if it's even possible, probably not, but if he sticks as our punter, I'd love to see him be able to run to his left and kick the ball to the right as well. If he always runs to the right, it's too predictable.
