Jets fans have very right to be highly skeptical; however, I will say this... where Idzik's actions seemed counter-intuitive, Maccagnan seems to take a logical and common-sense approach.
Mac said in the presser last night that he had a bunch of players grouped together at that spot. They did the math and calculated how many spots they could drop and still get a player from that group along with extra picks. There is a lot of thought and conviction behind these decisions. There is no fantasy or Madden component to them. The main point of consideration is the scouting/evaluation of the players and the accuracy achieved by the GM and his scouting dept. Considering Mac's long history of scouting I feel pretty confident in his ability to grade and rank the players effectively.
I'm with you there. I not unhappy. Seems like a good value in an area of need. I really thought however, they would stay put and pick up an OL
Someone posited that Mac traded down only after AJ Cann was picked by another team. That could be right, and would make sense.
i buy into everthing the jets do? LOL! i was here bashing the pryor pick, amaro pick, the milliner pick the yea before(called it the biggest reach in that draft), then last year said we would win 3-6 games when others had us as a 9-10 win team. im FAR from a sunshiner. it isnt hard to love the Mauldin pick when you watch him play. its easy not to like him looking at how he performed in aontoher sport(track and field) and pretend that has much of a translation over (combine results have had little to no correleation good or bad to football). Mauldin is a leader, a hard worker, a great charecter guy, and extremely productive football player, and elite pass rusher in college, has great quickness and closing speed. he is EXACTLY the kind of player the jets needed
Nicely said. All we know is that they felt there was enough talent within those twelve spots to justify the trade and garnish additional picks. Had one of them been significantly higher in the rating they might not have pull the trigger.
http://cardinalsportszone.com/2015/...ional-on-conference-call-after-being-drafted/ Here is his conference call after being drafted.. love this kid already
i dont see why that would be the case, when he was such an outstanding outside/edge rusher. its what he does best. todd bowles "he has tenacity on the edge" i cant see them playing him like bart scott
"he brings the nasty" bowles on mauldin. gushing over the guy. you can tell from the interview this isnt just some guy they took as a backup plan, this is somone they had targeted
Exactly he said "group" no one player specifically. The poster I responded was talking about 2 SPECIFIC players. RIF (Reading Is Fundamental)!
I didn't neccesarily like the trade down yesterday but it turned out we used the 7th in this deal to ensure Petty.
No need to get testy, I wasn't disagreeing with you or even arguing. Just pointing out what Mac said in the presser. If anything it was supporting your argument. Everyone on this forum needs to chill the fuck out (targeted to everybody legler82, don't think I'm singling you out).
