Very interesting stuff. I just don't agree that Hack automatically sits the entire year. I think he will show a lot in camp. If the team struggle----snd with this schedule I expect them to---I can see him getting some starts late, unless he is a complete bust, which I do not believe he will be. He knows how to go through progressions, something Geno has never learned. He reads defenses better already. NO, I think if the Jets go 10-6 again, he sits. If they are 4-6, he plays
I watched Jenkins a lot. I don't know what the board's expectations are so maybe I agree with you? But I doubt he will ever become a big pass rusher for us. He is very good in the running game though. He will set the edge nicely in the running game. He's here to replace Pace, who last year, despite the criticism for not rushing the passer was underrated as a run defender. Jenkins will be a similar player into the future I think. but he definetely will qualify for the OP's criteria of tier 1"A lock to make the roster and is a starter or could see substantial playing time". He's a lock to make the roster and idk if he will start or not but he's going to play a lot as there really isn't much depth at what he does
im hoping dri archer makes the team. we need an explosive guy in the return game. he didnt pop any for the steelers, but the guy was insane at kent state in both kick and punt returns. we sorely miss a return game. archer had the second highest 40 time in combine history. we need to find a roster spot for him
Our fourth rounder takes either Cromartie or Walls spot from last year - does not push McDougle out - Walt White took this into account - we have just 6 CBs now not the 7 we carried last year unless one of the three guys in Tier 4 show us a lot more and they push McD out. Remember this is not about liking a player or saying they don't deserve a place - this is purely looking at depth at certain positions, guaranteed money and decisions the FO will need to make. Any UDFA starts as a Tier 4 unless very high profile while last year I had Breno as Tier 1 based not on his ability (I never liked the signing) but the amount of guaranteed money owed and the dead money such a decision would result in coupled with the depth already in place. I also see a definite plan @ WR emerging and virtually all those we look at are over 6' tall - where we deviate they are return specialist types or can take the top off. To that effect we have Archer mentioned above and the Ohio St UDFA to consider. We need competition at every position to build a better team. I prefer to think that there will be hard decisions and some fan favourites end up on the street every year (including any I have) as this means we have better depth and can improve our SP play and be more resilient in he event a starter gets injured during the season.
That simply isn't true. I wish you guys would quit repeating that lie. When Chan has a quality TE, he uses him, but you can't expect him to use the shit we had last year.
Carter and Henderson both play inside.. Jenkins plays outside... neither will be over him. It's a different position.
I wasn't speaking on his past history of work, but last year we had the least targets at TE of any team in the league. What we had was trash to be sure but they didn't make any move to sure up that mess this year either. With the position as bad as it is it indicates they aren't especially worried about the position. Maybe its a wait and see what they have with Amaro, but even after that they should have made a move on something more solid than Kellen Davis. Pickings were fairly slim, but seriously almost anything is better than Cumberland and Davis at this point. Looks like that anything is going to be Amaro and Suds.
Jenkins will 100% be on the rosters... career and Henderson are it's because of the depth behind them in Lee and Taiwan Jones, both of which the Cs seems very high on.
I could be wrong of course, but I think they're not worried about the position for several reasons. One, as you say, is that they are waiting to see what happens with Amaro (even though they see him as an H-back, rather than traditional TE). Another is that they have Enunwa at H-back as well. Another is that they added Forte, and all 3 RBs now are good receivers out of the backfield, so having a traditional TE who can catch is less important. Still another is that this was considered a bad draft for TEs. Finally, the Jets had a number of other holes that they thought were more important (QB, edge rusher, speed at LB, OL, RT, RG, CB, P). I'm guessing that they will eventually look to upgrade the TE position once these other holes/weaknesses are fixed. In the team's present state, having a quality TE is more of a luxury than a necessity, but I think that ultimately Chan would love to have a great two-way TE. Couple that with a franchise QB and solid OL and the Jets' offense could be unstoppable.
Good write up, Just have a few notes 1) QB, I'd list petty as a tier one. i can't see him going anywhere, if we resign fitz, chances are we let geno go. If not, then all 3 stay. 2) RB, Bohanon should be tier 1, he is our starting FB. as much as i don't really care for even having a FB, the jets apparently do. Then forte starts, powell is our 3rd down back and robinson is the short yardage guy. everyone else is gone 3) WR, No complaints about your list, just wanted to say I love the Peake pick. he's a 3rd to 4th round telnt we got in the 7th. rough project but could be a stud in a year or 2 4) Oline, I'd list winters as a tier 2. I'm 95% sure he will be our starting guard along with carpenter day 1. I agree that I hope Qvale steps up and takes over breno's job. Breno was terrible. 5) DB, I disagree about not knowing who starts. it's 100% gonna be Pryor at SS and Ghilcrest at FS. I think we keep 4 so one of the 3 tier 3 guys isn't gonna make it. Could be any of them but I have a feeling it'll be martin.
Our 4th rounder replaced Cro technically. Plus we also lost walls. Bowles likes to have 6 CBs especially since milliner can't be counted on to stay healthy.
How do you know? I could be backing a lame ass POS Idzick pick. Lol I'll take it a step further. In spite of the dumb wave of negativity directed at Burris, he may be able move to a Safety spot also, kinda like Antonio Allen. Cover TE's man to man over the middle, or play back. Fans were saying that Walls was gonna replace Revis at one point. Yet McDougle is still on the roster?
Of course this is all very subjective, but I think Bohannon is tier 3 even if he is the starter. IMO he shouldn't even be on the team. I think he's a wasted roster spot. He's not that good a blocker, runner or receiver. I'm hoping this will be the year that he is cut. I'm hoping that other players will play so well in TC that Bowles and Mac just can't cut them and they decided to do without Bohannon and use a backup OL or Richardson as the FB. Similarly, I think Winters is more of a tier 3 pick even though he started. Qvale probably is as well unless or until he shows that he can play at a much higher level than Breno, who is definitely tier 3. I agree that Pryor and Gilchrest will be the starting safeties.
Agree 100%. Amaro and Enunwa will be work as HB which is fine but with our line I think they might occasionally need a TE that can block. When Davis was brought in the scuttlebutt was that he could block some. Unfortunately last seasons performance says otherwise. I like Amaro , maybe they can coach him up a bit and he can learn to at least throw an effective chip.
I believe Amaro will produce when given the chance. He missed all 0f last season with surgery, and in his rookie year he did pretty well considering the disaster we had at the QB position. Plus he gets under Rex Ryan's skin, lol.
The Jets could keep four quarterbacks on their active roster in 2016, general manager Mike Maccagnan said Tuesday during an interview with WFAN's Mike Francesa. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2016/05/jets_could_keep_4_quarterbacks_on_active_roster_in.html "The simple answer to your question is yes," Maccagnan said when asked if the Jets could carry four quarterbacks. "We even discussed that a little bit [internally]. At the end of the day, quarterbacks are important, obviously in the league in general. But in a perfect world, I think you'd like to take your time to develop [young] quarterbacks and have them almost in the pipeline, basically. "So that's kind of our approach to this whole thing. If it's in the best interest of the team at the end of training camp that we carry four quarterbacks, then we carry four quarterbacks. It's not unprecedented in the NFL. It's been done before. To me, it's a position where you have to take some time to really invest, grow, and develop players." So who do you keep if the roster breaks down like this? 4QBs, 4RBs, 6 WRs, 2TEs, 9 OL = 25 6/7DL, 8LBs, 6CBs, 4/5 Ss = 25 ST 1 K, 1P, 1LS = 3 Or what different combinations do you think they consider if the FO decide to keep 4 QBs
That's surprising that the Jets would keep 4 QBs, but might be the wisest course. There are a number of positions that will be pretty set in stone, but there are others I don't think anyone could really say right now. There are a lot of new faces. It also depends upon how the Jets view the TE position. Do they count Amaro and Enunwa as TEs or WRs, since neither is really an in-line TE? If they count them as WRs, do they keep a TE at all? If so, how many and who do they keep between Sudfield, Robinson, Bostick, Saxton, or Davis? Another alternative might be to keep an extra OL or two to use as the FB/TE. Then again, they may have a tough time coming up with 9 OL worthy of a roster spot (Mangold, Carpenter, Clady, Ijalana, Qvale, Harrison?, Johnson? Dozier? Shell?). At LB, will they keep 5 ILBs? If not, who goes? Harris and Lee are locks. Henderson probably is safe. Would Carter or Jones be cut? At OLB they have Mauldin, Jenkins and Reilly. Would Howsare be kept as a LB/FB? Unless they add another LB or someone surprises, they may need only 6-7 spots for LBs. At RB, I don't think we have 4 RBs right now who are worthy of a roster spot. I don't like Stacy or Bohannon at all. If they plan to use someone as a FB, I would prefer Howsare or a OL or DL. I have some hopes for Dri Archer, but will he be good enough to stick? I doubt Dominique Williams will. If they keep 4 RBs, the 4th may not be on the team yet. I think there will be 7 DL (Williams, Richardson, Wilkerson, Simon, Catapano, Jenkins, & McLendon) I think 6 sounds about right for CB - Revis, Skrine, Williams, Burris, Milliner & McDougle unless one of the FAs (Short, Morris, Kendall) surprises, or Milliner gets injured or just doesn't earn a spot. At S probably 4 (Pryor, Gilchrist, Martin & Bailey), unless Miles beats one of them out or is so good, that they decide to cut someone else.
