Can't go wrong really, if he flops again we lose a very minimal amount of money, if he does well we have a good player for minimal.
Terrible move. This defense needs more answers than questions. I'd rather see a proven veteran DE/OLB come in for the minimum, no matter how old, instead of Gholston 2.0
The Bills are paying the majority of his salary, so there is no risk. He will be a situational pass rusher at best. Don't expect much, if we get some sacks and a few pressures it will be a decent move. Really nothing to get into a twist over, it's a minor move. Gholston was a bust cause we wasted a #6 and all that coin. The Bills took the bust label on Maybin, not the Jets.
I don't see how signing a player who can be released at no cost, is not expected to have a large role and won't be taking a spot away from anyone useful can be a "terrible move."
i like the signing low risk, low money on a kid who at one time showed someone that he had potential if it works out Rex is a genius and if it doesnt no harm done why are you guys acting like we gave him $10 million gaurenteed?
I was at camp on Thursday and really liked what I saw from him. On one occasion I saw Bart Scott pulled him aside and was talking hand placement. Another time I saw an assistant wrap his arm around him and had a talk for a minute during Dline vs Oline drills. The guy clearly has an incredible first step off the ball and tremendous speed off the edge, absolutely no denying that. As other people have mentioned, I definately see Rex using him off the edge to take on the Tackle one on one while sending blitzers inside. A few times it was clearly apparent that he will struggle to disengage blockers, however I was suprised to see him bull rush an Olineman back about 4 yards (possibly Landolt?). If he can get up to 255ish, and continue working on his moves, I think Rex will love using him on 2nd/3rd and longs.
That sounds great, thanks for the input! You made an excellent point about Maybins speed. In all actuality Maybin can be successful in this offense on passing downs because of the way that Rex blitzes. As long as Maybin is faster to the up the field than most tackles, Rex can send a mlb or safety in between him and the de and generate pressure.
How about a name of this elusive "proven veteran DE/OLB that will come in for the minimum"? What player is out there available that fits this description?
I'm sure he is. I have high expectations. I'm expecting him to not get thrown around by the running back like last week. Keeping my fingers crossed.
