I'm not "beating myself up", just expressing a concern based upon the history of the Jets. Maybe - hopefully - Douglas is as good as we hope, but the fact remains that he's the GM, not the owner, and is subject to the owner telling him to do something that doesn't make sense. So, while Douglas's track record may not show this tendency, the Johnsons do.
We might as well trade Sam ASAP because the entire league sees what we have done to him now. Tearing things down around him during a key development year is an insult to him and a red flag to the league that we don't think he has any potential. The longer he plays for us the more his value will decline. There is no upside for either Sam or us now. Trade him for what we can and Flacco this pop warner season away. Sam Darnolds career. Murdered by Adam Gase and the worst executives in sports.
OMG This is beyond comprehension ..Crowder is our only solid receiver Douglas wants to have Rookies and the youngest Vets run the team? Crowder has been in the League since 2015 so does that make him too old? If this is true Douglas wants more Chips to wheel and deal come 2021 They might say to Sam "your job is safe until Lawrence takes over" ...poor Sam he needs a fresh start and coaching Its obvious now we are moving on from Darnold...he just aint that good I have posted before that First Rounders' must have an immediate impact on a Team...well Sam has unfortunately regressed and the present thinking has to be its more on the player/mistakes etc even with the worst HC Coach in the world
The Jets are not guaranteed the #1 pick. If they are cleaning house including Sam then stupid is as stupid does.
There is only so much NFL talent in 1 NFL draft. That is limit how much can improve team in 1 draft. Stockpiling picks not best thing, just ask Cleveland! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
this is true, but there are ways around it. The good ones like NE and Baltimore trade down with current year picks for future years. They stockpile picks in multiple years when they have the chance
If they trade Crowder, then they are fully committed to tanking and are NOT committed to Darnold. It could be that they received offers for Crowder and that started rumors about the Jets trying to trade him. Question: Suppose they can get a mid-round 1st round pick in the 2021 draft for Crowder, then how would you feel about trading him?
I'd do it as long as there's at least one FA WR such as Allen Robinson signed. Then use the acquired 1st on Devonta Smith or Jaylen Waddle. Boom, Trevor Lawrence has a proven weapon and another he can grow with.
I don't that's in the realm of being a possibility of an offer for Crowder. As much as I like him he's probably a third round player at best. While older, Emmanuel Sanders went for a third and a fourth last year.
Hmmm...the Browns are 3-1 and challenging the Ravens and Pitt within their Division They drafted well picked up OBJ and have K Stefanski a pretty good Coach Looks like the Stockpiling paying off
Sadly I fear Darnold's career could go just fine once he's away from this mess. Just as we're watching Robby flourish with Carolina and other ex-Jets players, this GM didn't think were good enough, playing well on contending teams.
Well it did not for like 10 yrs, 3-4 regimes, 5-6 HCs. 7-8 QBs - 3 -4 in 1st round. All busts. Winless season. They were considered one of worst at drafting, even with all those extra picks. Only rival on bad drafting is jets! It was complete Shitshow. New regime this yr., and Finally this yr some success, but it’s early. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah, was gonna say, 4-1 btw. The new HC might be the reason too. OBJ looks like he may have finally settled down, but who knows with him. I think Chubb was injured, not sure how bad. Would love to see Bell go to a team and help them to the post-season. A team I don't hate anyway. Browns would work for me
Anyone with little or a lot of extra picks can draft badly..true dat The difference is picks help you bargain your way closer to first and second rounders' where there is a 60% more chance they will succeed in NFL
I don't think we'd get a first round pick. Whatever mid-round pick we get would probably have to be risked on a WR with upside like....Jamison Crowder. Based on our mid-round drafting, I'd keep him around.
We better hope not cause if it was surely the HC would need to be on board w that decision from the on set & have autonomy into next yr. JD didnt draft Sam but neither did Gase
Yea, moves all make sense in terms of a complete rebuild, but the Gase factor is what concerns me. My hope is that this is a “praise in public” situation and Gase will be taken out with the rest of the trash eventually, but I have to admit it’s not a great look to dismantle (an already shitty to begin with) team, then fire the coach for losing with it. Gase should have been fired weeks ago and the longer he lasts the more concerned I’ll be about Douglas, whether it’s his decision or not.
The only saving grace is that the Johnson's don't fire coaches mid-season and historically haven't. I think it'll be hard to look at their squad being 0-9 to 0-12 and approaching history though. Maybe they're waiting for the bye?
There’s probably a handful of coaches who could scheme out a few wins with the talent on this roster and none of them are coming to the Jets mid-season. I honestly don’t think firing Gase changes the trajectory of this season in any way, which would mean there’s no good reason to keep him around.
