If they would gain extra cap space, I'm sure they would. The problem is that it would cost them an extra $1 million in cap space. There'd be no savings and they'd lose cap space. He's here.
If you are trying to get the most out of a young quarterback (hack/petty) doesn't it make sense to keep a reliable and effective receiving target like Decker? A young QB where the game is moving a mile a minute could use someone like Decker who they can trust will be in the spots he's supposed to be in and will catch it if it's in his window. unless of course you don't really have much faith in the young quarterbacks and are planning to tank for a better one. Which could be the case. I don't believe this bodes well for hackenberg & petty's futures here. If they were truly committed to Hackenberg's future they wouldn't consider putting him out there with such a young and an inexperienced supporting cast. That is a disaster in the making..... again, maybe they want a disaster
It figures in this effed up county/world. Plain front, high water, too tight pants. There isn't a worse look in men's slacks. The white tie on the white shirt isn't much better. This is exactly why I pay no attention to "high fashion." IMO they're all a bunch of screwed up morons.
That's what I'm grappling with as well. I think our WR group is young and talented. It's possible that by drafting Hansen and Stewart, and in order to secure them more reps and get cheaper, Decker became the odd man out. Also, he is aging and coming off injuries. He is best served playing on a contender. But I wonder if the idea was to offload talent to get cheaper but also to suck so bad that we are getting a top 3 pick. Or was it simply a means to get younger and get more reps for WR's. If this is a true youth movement, I would prefer not to see McCown take any snaps and would prefer Jets roll with Petty and/or Hack for the entire season. If they suck so bad then we will be picking high enough to get a Rosen-Darnold.
but how does having a veteran WR who is committed to the finer details of his craft (like route running & blocking) hurt the development of young receivers? I find that explanation really hard to believe... decker is either damaged goods or are they are trying to tank. I'm not against tanking, I'm just saying..
Man, if I could like this 100 times I would. So much truth in this post. They stood up for Fitz and Fitz put out shitty performances on their behalf. We don't need these type of players in the locker room; just do YOUR job. They were all held accountable for their actions.
everyone in the locker room supported fitzpatrick. Those players were all released because they were older and more expensive. If they weren't, they'd be here, fitzpatrick love or not
Yeah, that too! I've seen that a lot, unfortunately, so I guess it didn't even register/bother me when I saw the photo, but you're right. They should be black or cordovan/oxblood.
I think the FO/coaching staff is confident that Morton can teach the kids what they need to learn. The rebuilding process is just starting. The more reps the kids get, the faster they will progress, the better the chemistry they can develop. I don't think Decker's health can be really know until he takes big hits, If we keep him and he goes down, the cap savings are gone and he's not on the field anyway. It's a gamble. We can all speculate what the reasoning is but we really are just guessing.
WOW! I never even considered that, and it would be something if that was the reason. That said, I doubt that is the reason that Marshall and Decker are gone, as Marshall would still be here if he hadn't wanted to go.
Yeah, it was right after the Kansas City game. Age definitely played a MAJOR role, but they are also cleaning up this locker room.
You expect a draft pick for a 33yo guy that is on his last legs in pro sports ? We may presume that Decker hasn't come back in great shape and has been released before he ends back up on IR, again that would be speculation on my part but a possible reason. A shame because I have always liked Decker and felt he didn't get the credit he deserved at Denver
When you eradicate cancer, you have to get it ALL out. Sometimes you have to take some healthy tissue too for the greater good. I just think it is an all-in, total blow up.
You mean tried to get a pick for a high-priced, old-ish, coming out of the injury WR? Man.... I wish you were GM. With this brilliance NYJ would've been in PO by now
There are only so many practice and game minutes available. Decker hurts the development of younger players by eating into these minutes just by his mere presence on the field and taking practice reps. It's up to the coaching staff to continue teaching technique, route running, blocking, etc... not a player. You couldn't get a draft pick earlier for him as he was on the IR and had yet to pass his physical. I have no problems going all out youth as long as we can start to hit on draft picks.
I think Deck should absolutely garner at LEAST a 5th. He has 3 rock solid years left. He has shown what impact he has in games and how much he helps to open up an offense. You can split him out anywhere and he is an above average blocker.
Decker aint gonna generate much of anything now in a trade. Why would someone trade for him when the GM comes out and openly says were gonna cut him if we cant trade him???? Teams would just wait until he's released so they can sign him on their terms and not send any compensation to the Jets. I'm not completely against moving on from Decker but at least be smart about it holy cow. That's twice Maccagnan has done this in one offseason. maybe we would've gotten something better for Pryor if he didn't make it completely obvious he wanted to move on
