I imagine you are just joking, but just in case. Jm has 2 wins in the last three years. He doesnt give any team the best chance to win because he doesnt win games. He has a reputation of being a teacher. He was brought here to help flush out any talent in petty or hack that might exist.

Starting McCown would be so asinine with these moves that just happened. If Bowles even tries to explain that playing McCown gives the team the best chance to win he will look like a fool.

Reports are the Jets tried to lure Steve Smith out of Retirement and Mac has said he now has the financial flexibility to add some veterans. Makes me think they were not confident in Decker's recovery.

Why is a tank season associated with going with a youth movement?

Giving young players reps does not mean the team wants to tank.

One of the Philosophies of Ron Wolf who is considered a great GM is to get rid of older veterans and let the young guys develope, it's what's in the best long term interest of the team and players.

These are good moves by the Jets, it's what the fans have been asking for from this team.

According to reports, he's already healthy and has looked great running around out there at OTAs.

This to me is a shocker. Just a couple of hours ago i made a post about Eric Decker becoming more of a veteran leader after the release of David Harris.

But then again it's not a shocker to me because despite one season of 600+ receiving yards, one season of 900+ yards and three seasons of +1,000+ yards at the end of the day he's still a 30 year old WR who's coming off injury after only playing 3 games last year.

Lots of Jet fans were right. I tip my cap. The writing was on the wall for Decker. If Revis, Harris, Marshall, Mangold, Gilchrist etc could all get it. Then i guess so could Decker. Maccagnan is serious about this youth movement.

Could Matt Forte be next? Nothing would shock me at this point.

Enunwa and Anderson should now be our #1 & # 2's for just say a young Hackenberg to work with due to last years experience and production on the field alone.

The release of Decker will now give three younger players the opportunity to compete against one another for the three spot behind Enunwa and Robby.

Those three young guns are now a 2nd year kid in Charone Peake out of Clemson and two 3rd & 4th round Rookies in ArDarius Stewart out of Alabama and Chad Hansen. They'll all compete for the 3, 4 & 5 spots.

    I think we'll carry 6 WR's.

    Enunwa.
    Anderson.
    Peake.
    Stewart.
    Hansen.
    Jalin.

I'm of the thinking that, that'll be our 6 top receivers heading into 2017.

I don't think Maccagnan is ready to quit on an underdog talent out of Ohio State just yet in Jalin Marshall. Not until 2018 at least. He could end up standing out or even flourishing come raining camp.

I don't understand this move. Like some others, I think it would have been best for both the young QBs and young WRs to keep Decker around. I'd be surprised if it was for health reasons, as reports from OTAs have said that Decker is running around full speed and not showing any ill effects from the surgeries.

I'd be shocked if this was a move to tank. If so, why keep Forté or sign McCown? If what TonyFtLaud said is true about the Jets trying to talk Steve Smith out of retirement or Mac saying that now the team can sign some other veterans, why would they have done that if the intent is to tank?

I think it's probably largely a cap move, but also the Jets must feel pretty comfortable with how their young WRs are looking and with the seeming emergence of ASJ who has supposedly been very impressive in OTAs.

What I absolutely HATE is more of this nonsense leaking that the Jets are going to release Decker? WTF is that mindless BS? Players deserve better than that. Just go ahead and make the fucking announcement. Especially in Decker's case, they probably could have traded him and gotten a decent draft pick in return. Now, why should some team trade for him? They can just wait for him to be cut and outbid the other teams. I'm really starting to question Mac's acumen in handling personnel. If the leaks regarding both Harris and Decker were unintentional, then Mac needs to find out pronto who did it and kick their asses to the curb post haste.

I think Forte is safe as his Cap hit would be 6 million if we release him and there's not likely to be much of a trade market for him.

Would you prefer they bring in a competent Head Coach when they're trying to tank or go with Toilet this year to insure the tank is complete then dump him? I rest my case

I agree reports were Decker looks good running in shorts without contact but we don't know what the trainers saw after practice. Was he sore, having issues that were a concern. It could be just a financial decision. If I remember, Decker could not be released prior to passing a physcial, so maybe the team feels he is now physically ready and can release him. Fortes cap hit is $6 mill if released vs I believe$4 mill salary and $1 million signing bonus so it's cheaper to keep him.

Its probably a mix of what you just said. Not confident he will make a full recovery, didn't see him playing on the team next year, and perhaps wanted to let him compete on a team elsewhere. Overthecap shows his post June 1st cut being the same amount of space created as if we cut him next year. We save $7.5million in doing so. Correct me if I am wrong, but can't we then carry our cap into next year?

Also if we cut Forte we'd have horrible runningback depth behind Powell, who is not a full time runningback. McCown also sucks and perhaps they are only signing him in case Petty and Hack are so bad that they're unfit to play.

Just an addition, per Shefter, Decker's shoulder was cleared today.

Decker is 30 on a team going nowhere this year and likely jelling in '18 behind whoever they pick as QB so that's 2 wasted years for this team at a minimum. Better to dump salary now, save cap space to use next year or more so in '19 when their QB of the future should be comfortable with the system and ready to lead the offense supported by a young fast D. I like it.

Good OL in FA cost a lot, this tells me they're preparing to sign FA OL off rookie contracts or coming of their 2nd contract because we all know they haven't been able to draft any decent OL since they got D'Brick and Mangold.
