Chiefs run dime a lot; mostly with 2 defensive lineman. The talk needs to be about the nickel defense for the Jets. 4-2-5, 3-3-5, etc

The problem with running a hodgepodge of defensive packages, is it tends to put players in positions that they will not succeed in.

Exhibit A, Richardson playing OLB last year.

I have no problems with the releasing of Harris, its football.

I just hope they keep the 3-4 defense and occasionally throw in 4-3 looks, this way they will be able to keep Mauldin, Lee, Carter and Davis on the field with their speed.

Ironically the team that runs the fewest if any subpackages are yep....the Patriots, they focus on making teams one dimensional with a 4-3 front then move the parts on the field around to counter the opposing offenses moves. Their safeties can cover slot receivers, play deep zone, or come into the box.

All of this mad scientist garbage that Bowels is putting out there is not going to help this team whatsoever.

I think it's all about putting the players in the right spots. Clearly Bowles failed at that aspect last year. Sheldon at OLB was stupid. Sub-packages or not, you have to put the players in the right spot to succeed. They will continue to throw in all kind of looks, however Bowles favors the nickel.

For the same reason we aren't winning any games--because the Jets are always way behind.

Your posts regarding the 4-3 speak of Lee as if he's shit against the run. He isn't. Right now, that's the best part of his play. He can't cover yet, but anticipates runs and racks up a lot of tackles. I totally don't get what your points are.

I loved David Harris. He played with heart, always kept his nose clean, and was a mofo tackling machine. Always ran like he had cinder blocks and bar bell weights in his pants, but he was a great Jet. I'm sure the NE PO game has been mentioned in here (didn't read). I was screaming c'mon lard pants, run like you're being chased by a pissed off Kodiak bear with cubs, run like you have to get to the hospital before your grandma inhales her last, run, goddamn it, run! I jumped up in my rabid Jets fan friend, Vinnie's living room, and tried to kick David Harris in the back through the TV screen and push him into the EZ. Tackled at the 9, oyyyyyyyyyyy, here we go. Because you just know as a Jets fan, he didn't get in = catastrophic play coming, and it's going 81 yds the other way. Turned out to be a game changer. Thanks, David. I wish you all the best in the all that you do.

I think you need to make a distinction between quick and fast. Lee is fast. In a typical 4-3 (and I don't think the jets will run a typical 4-3) the will is generally a very good pass rusher/blitzer who has a good initial burst (is "quick") and can get to the QB quickly. That is not Lee. Lee is fast - he can cover a lot of the field and you want to put him in a place he can use his sideline to sideline speed - MLB.

In any event, the jets will likely use a hybrid system that is somewhere between a 4-3 and a 3-4 and I expect they will sometimes resemble a 4-3 defense and other times a 3-4. Even the 3-4 that they were running really resembled more of a 4-3 in the case of gap assignments etc than a 3-4.

Sorry to be so blunt to the snowflakes but

Second place is just the first loser

Either rebuild to win or go away

I don't give a flying fuck about a "respectable" non Super Bowl team.

I'd rather go 1-15 for 8 years and win a SB than go 10-6 for 20 years and win zero

I prefer the latter rather than the former, but hopefully, there are some different options than either extreme.

    We'll see in time.

Either way, it's the Jets. Whatever they do will come back to bite us in the ass. Never fails. Endless circle of ineptitude.

He's average in the run game cause he gets eaten up by blockers. He's not an inside linebacker in the 4-3 and more than likely he's your 2nd inside linebacker in the 3-4.

INTERESTING QUOTES from the star ledger ,Bowels asked about Harris by reporter

So why cut Harris? What's the point?
"That's a good question," Bowles said.

Maybe Bowels and Mac are not on the same page or calling these shots together,,,,,gives me a glimmer of hope that Bowels will be canned after this year and not get a free pass . A boy can dream anyways

Yeah, I saw that press conference. Bowles looked very sheepish and meek, like his wings had been clipped. He said all the right things about the leadership of the organization making decisions together and that they were all on the same page, but he wasn't very convincing. Given his choice, he may have let Decker go, but I don't think there's any way he would have let Harris go.
