You guys act like Coles and Cotch haven't been 2 really productive WRs. Coles, when healthy, has always been and Cotch since he emerged in '06 has always been. We didn't have problems at our starting WRs, now we do.
I feel the same way. He's not an all-around wideout, but he's a very good possession guy with some decent quickness and great hands and concentration. When he has single coverage, I find he has been very productive.
Coles hasn't been healthy since Zach Thomas knocked the crap out of him at the end of 06. While he still was productive, he dropped balls and dropped off at the end of the year and he was a no show in most of the post season games he was in. They guy is good not great and in decline. He had some great games last year and he also sucked in games last year and had some huge drops. That's a sign of decline. Always good to unload a player a year to soon than a year to late especially if there's cap money involved.
They have both been very good but Coles time is up and now is the time to let the younger guys have their shot. This is actually a good problem. Once upon a time we were talking about our Wr problem when Cotchery was on the bench and all we though we had was Coles. I think the young guns can get it done and they can grow with their young Qb.
You know the drill around here by now. Everybody we have sucks, nobody is good enough, we're better off with cap space, 5th round draft picks and other peoples' garbage. Oh, and as soon as a hard working player is gone after x amount of years, it's time to spill pages of hate and bile on TGG about him. Par for the course.
Are you saying he never gets double teamed? He hasn't really been healthy since that illegal hit by Thomas BUT he hs still been productive when he has played despite playing w/ QBs who weren't performing. I'm ok w/ letting him go thanks to him freeing up cap room but we did have 2 good starting WRs. I think Housh is basically the same type of player but they are the same age although Hosuh hasn't taken as much of a pounding since he didn't really play alot until about 5 years ago.
Remmeber how he was hated when he left for Washington? then he was loved as soon as he was back. I was pissed at him for leaving in the first place, I have no problem w/ guys getting as much as possible but the way he did it I didn't like. I still like him though and I got over that, I appreciate what he did and as long as he doesn't go to a div rival I'll root for him but if he goes to Miami, just like Chad, I won't be able to root for him.
Coles was a great Jet player and one of the toughest I have seen but he was getting up there in age. I think it would serve the team and Coles best if he could go to a contender and we can find his replacement. They have been talking about Stuckey for two years when do you think he should be allowed to play?
Stuckey played alot last year and he will this year(if healthy). I can't see any way we go into '09 w/ Stuckey and Cotchh as our starters.
I disagree. Considering Coles is nearing the end of his career, I think both Camarillo / Ginn are capable of being just as good / productive as Coles... If Chad made salad out of shit, I'm guessing Brett made shit out of salad..... Well if nobody else is, I'm certainly proud of you....
I don't have a big problem with the move itself, just the reaction of a lot of people in this thread. People act like he always sucked and we're better off being rid of him. We're only better off being rid of him if we get somebody better, which remains to be seen and certainly not a given, he was a solid, tough player for a long time. It's not like we're loaded at WR, it was a need before releasing Coles.
Ha so who is going to heave the ball to Ginn certainly not Penny. We learned that when we ddrafted Moss & Penny could not reach him. Ginn on a team with a strong armed QB could be one dynamite player
Camarillo is coming off a serious injury, the only thing Ginn has on LC is age and upside, but he's not as good a WR as Coles is now and nowhere near what Coles used to be. To be accurate, Chad made chicken salad out of chicken shit, Favre made chicken salad and then shit all over it at the end. It was hard work, but now I can move on to perfecting D'Brickashaw.
If Stucky is capable of playing as good as he has shown is flashes on a full time basis then it is basically a wash. Hopefully Keller can get more touches as well. Coles is good but he is not as good as he was a few years ago. Do you still feel that Coles was a number one receiver? To be honest I think him and Cotch are both two very good number 2's at this point.
Let's say Stuckey is reayd to start, you slide him up and then that removes depth. Either way we need another WR.
Productive is the only way to explain it, but that doesn't make them great. Coles has been eh. Cotch is still young. No mysteries there.
