Mawae was good for us but there was hardly a drop off with Mangold as a replacement. Abraham was great for the four games a year he played. Lets not forget how he sat out a playoff game so he could be healthy for FA! Coles is certainly not the player he was a few seasons ago, he let us off the hook w/ the guaranteed money and the antics off the field. With the focus being on the running game and the depth we have at WR, I don't think it needs to be addressed in the first round. I definitely think the pros outweigh the cons on this one.
from USAToday: "Because of the compromise between the sides, the Jets are off the hook for the guaranteed $6 million Coles was due this upcoming season."
Don't care one damn bit if Coles goes to Miami. We've seen all that he can do and he just whines and whines about a new deal every offseason. He is a malcontent, and I'll be happy to bring in someone who can compliment Cotchery better.
I'm not going back through all 16 pages looking, but did anybody happen to mention the fact that Chansi Stuckey is a 10 years younger Coles without the concussions, bitching and the constant hamstring injuries? He makes Coles obsolete and expendable.
Not that I saw but I was just about to say in the receiver thread that 2009 Stuckey could easily equal 2008 Coles barring injury.
I would imagine Coles is southbound... Oh well, its a long overdue move and I'm glad its happening. Reality has set in at Jets HQ. We're not SB bound so why not use this time to get younger and really evaluate who and what we have on the roster. Better to make informed moves in both FA and the Draft..
Maybe the Faguars will throw a ton of money at him he lives in Jax I believe, and they are always hurtin' at WR.
Don = Donkey Don't expect him to read. He cannot. Link: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2009/02/new_york_jets_release_wide_rec.html
LOL you could almost bet on that one. They don't have a WR like him and his boyfriend is there so it makes too much sense.
John Abraham was a beast this year and we have not have had any pass rush since he left. People point to Mangold (who we totally lucked out getting with pick # 29) but we already had Mawae. Although we saved some cap space we gave Bryan Thomas a contract extension that used up some of that savings. Also, if we had kept John Abraham we would not have used the sixth overall pick in last year's draft to select Gholsten. To me dumping Abraham and Mawae seems to go from bad to worse as the dominos continue to fall. Remember that we are not getting anything but cap space in exchange for Coles. If we don't spend that cap space on a free agent or use a valuable day one pick we get a flashback of the year after we lost Keyshawn. This could end up working out in the end but this move just has bad idea written all over it.
