Don't be suprised to see him in Miami for same or lesser price. (Sorry, English is my 4th language) If he won't get the money he wants (and he wont get 8$ mil from nobody, besides the dumbskins) he will have two options. NY or Miami. Ryan doesn't want him, while Miami does. Throw in the fact that we got the QB that has been throwing it to him for most of his career, and the guy who drafted him, it's an easy decision.
Rex Ryan does not mess around. NOTHING in the world would surprise me less than Coles joining the Dolphins. Waking up and seeing the sun tomorrow will be more surprising. Thats a done deal, sadly.
Apparently a lot of people are hungry for real and important news and not simply mindless speculation
He'll get less for this coming season, but I'd imagine something in the neighborhood of $4 - 5 million per for 3 or 4 years.
Definitely a warrior on the field, but you could often see the SOJ look on his face when they got down. We all know the baggage that came with him off the field. With Ryan coming in there is the rekindled hope of changing the culture of the SOJ, it's time to look to the future and Coles was never part of that. Thanks and good luck, time to move forward.
Get out of here already. Who cares dude. We wont be suprised at all considering 90% of us on the board expect it. Who said Miami even wants him? you spoke to Parcells and Soprano? Chad had one good season with Coles. Then Coles took off when Coles came back Chad was hurt and couldnt throw 10 yards. Beat it.
I did not see this coming and for coles to walk away from that kinda money, he really must want out. I'm sure Miami is at the top of his list.......
Here's the article from NJ.com if it wasn't already posted: New York Jets to release wide receiver Laveranues Coles by Dave Hutchinson/Star-Ledger Staff Wednesday February 25, 2009, 4:13 PM William Perlman/The Star-Ledger The Jets released Laveranues Coles Wednesday, but it is possible the wide receiver could return to the team. The Jets agreed to part ways with veteran wide receiver Laveranues Coles this afternoon -- but both sides left open the possibility of his return to the team, although that seems unlikely. Technically, the Jets didn't release Coles, however. They restructured his deal to allow him to become an unrestricted free agent. As a result, his $6 million guaranteed salary won't count against the cap. Coles, who was scheduled to earn a guaranteed $6 million salary for the 2009-10 season, wanted a long-term deal with the team. But when the two sides could not reach an agreement, they reached a compromise, giving Coles the right to find his own deal on the open market on the eve of free agency. "We didn't leave on bad terms,'' Coles said. "It's not out of the question that I could come back." Coles, 31, is taking a gamble, as his contract for the upcoming season was guaranteed, something unusual in the NFL. Coles, however, feels a long-term deal is more important to him than the guarantee. "I look at it as a long-term thing,'' he said. "It's something my agent (Roosevelt Barnes) and I (discussed) for a long time. I trust my agent. He's been in my corner for a long time. He gave me his opinion. He said he truly believed we could get a long-term deal on the open market and I took his word for it. "I want to go somewhere where I can finish my career. I don't want to bounce from team to team. I hope to play another three or four years." The Jets and new coach Rex Ryan told Coles a new deal was not going to happen with them right now. "Rex and I had a good talk,'' Coles said. "He explained to me that he didn't want to give veterans who are in their second contract a new deal before their current deal was completed. "I explained to him that my situation was a little bit different because this situation has been ongoing. But I understand what Rex is trying to do and I don't want to jeopardize what he's trying to put in place. He has been honest with me from the word, 'Go.'" Coles was drafted by the Jets in the third round of the 2000 draft and has played on the team for seven of his nine seasons in the league. He signed a free-agent deal with the Redskins before the start of the 2003 season, but was traded back to the Jets two years later. Last season, Coles had 70 catches for 850 yards and seven touchdowns. For his career, Coles has 631 catches for 8,095 yards and 44 touchdowns. The free-agent signing period begins at 12:01 a.m. on Friday morning. "My time with the Jets was great," Coles said. "I love the fans, my teammates and my coaches. I always wanted to finish my career in New York, but I've always said this is a business." How much cap room if any does this save us in addition to the $37 mil we're already under?
Ovechkin ftmfw. But im assuming you are just a capitals fan? Parcells, and Ireland didn't tell me that they will sign chad, but somehow I called it. Imagine that. And we did beat it btw, when it mattered the most.
I, personally, think this is great. New coach, new attitude! Coles is nothing other than a whining, self centered, money hungry as*h*le. The guy was never the same since he came back from the Redskins, and we have to listen to him bitch every offseason about his scratch. F him, and his bowling alley in his house. He hasn't scared opposing defenses for years, and I won't sweat this release at all.
I could see a $3 million signing bonus plus $3 million per year for three years. That way he gets the same total money even if he gets cut after next season, but only counts $4 million against the cap next year, and is very cheap to keep as long as he is decent. I can't see why Miami would pay him much more than that. Edit: I'm not sure how the 2010 uncapped year would affect all of this, assuming it happens.
