I've been a fan of Coles since we drafted him and he become one of the top Jets receiver's but over the years with chad throwing him ducks he sustained a shitload of concussions aswell as a serious ankle problem and his speed is nowhere near it was and his hands despite with Favre weren't that good this past season. He's on the decline and want more fucking $. Thanks for everything LC, Peace.

Only a little bittersweet. Looking forward to the Jets getting in a WR worth that kind of money that doesn't complain about everything all the time.

This was just posted on PFT:

ON FURTHER REVIEW, COLES WALKED AWAY FROM HIS $6 MILLION
Posted by Mike Florio on February 25, 2009, 5:55 p.m. EST

OK, now this is getting weird.

Despite a report in the New York Daily News that the guaranteed $6 million in base salary that receiver Laveranues Coles is due to earn from the Jets will be reduced by whatever he earns elsewhere, Dave Hutchinson of the Newark Star-Ledger has clarified for us that Coles has walked away from the guaranteed payment.

So, in other words, Coles gave up $6 million guaranteed in search of even more.

So, in other words, the Jets owe him nothing.

There?s a fine line between bravery and stupidity. As to where Coles falls on this specific issue, we?ll all have to wait and see.

The only downside is the difficulty in getting a top WR to come here with a big fat question mark at QB.

Read again bro. Coles is not stupid. Infact, if this is true, he has every chance in the world to make even more than $6mil, if not $6.

LC will earn the $6mil. If the other team pays him $5mil, then Jets will have to pay the other $1mil, as per the guarantee. If LC decides to retire, Jets will pay him $6mil.

But if LC gets an $8 mil deal, don't expect the extra $2mil to be refunded to the Jets.

Where's Champ been? I'm actually curious about his reaction to all of this.

Will Boldin want to come to the Jets? I know he would have no choice if traded but why sign a long term deal if we have no QB?

Coles is a moron and this is great for the Jets. Coles is an average receiver at this point that lacks speed. I would keep him at a much lower price but not at $6 million. The Jets had to have a fast wr to balance out Cotchery's lack of speed. I would love to see the Jets go with Cotchery, Clowney and Stuckey and a 2nd round pick.

From my understanding, we have no ties to L. Coles at all. If he finds a $5million deal, we would not have to pay him the extra million.

Read again bro, that's not what Hutchinson is saying. Coles gave up the guaranteed to money to get a chance at a longer term deal. The Jets did not have to release him. He was under contract and would have to play for them. He wanted a long-term deal so he gave up the money for a chance to get one.

This report just refuted what you just said. The Jets aren't that stupid. He could sign with the Dolphins for $500k and make the Jets pay him $5.5 million. Not going to happen.

Will miss: his guts on the field - always laid it out there and his enthusiasm/passion for the game

Won't miss: him staying on the ground for ten minutes, appearing dead or close to it after every hard hit nor him talking to reporters about anything not related to the games themself, ie contracts, feelings, relationships, etc.
