Here is my issue with it. The kid has some burst no doubt. Has he shown he can wrap up and tackle? Has he attempted to cover anyone? We know for sure he cant man handle his assignment when rushing so whats the + here saving money off a 1 year contract for another trash CB that will be chasing WR's down and not watching the ball?
I would be surprised if he wasn't brought back next week or soon... His contract is already guaranteed, and they're cutting him to bring someone who will most likely be on the active roster this week. Then after this week, or whenever BT is healthy, they can cut Trufant/Fletcher/Lankster. This move isn't to save money. It's to free up a roster spot.
he was probably too injured to play this week anyways, I can definitely see him and the Jets having a verbal agreement for him to return after this week. if he does return, is there a minimum we have to sign him, or can we continue to pay his current guaranteed contract?
Belichick is going to claim him and turn him into the next jet killer, no doubt. Just like he did with Danny Woodhead.
And Shaun Ellis and Marques Murrell and James Ihedigbo and James Dearth and Chris Baker and Vinny Testaverde and Victor Green....
My thoughts are A. The team was impressed with McIntyre's performance after the opening drive last week and B. Thomas isn't close to playing and therefore they released him with the agreement that when he's healthy they'll bring him back. Still a shitty way to treat a player and perhaps one of the reasons Jerricho Cotchery wanted out.
He's getting paid regardless, he can't help the team out this week, so they're bringing in someone who can. He knows the business. They're not cutting Keller, Conner has a better chance of being claimed due to his youth, so they're cutting the veteran. And if someone else does claim him, they owe him the salary. And there may not be a difference between BT and McIntyre at this point, with BT having no real future with the Jets beyond this year.
I could EASILY dig up 10,000+ post right here on TGG from you guyz SCREAMING for the Jets to cut BT. At least ten post a day from the day we drafted him 30 years ago. a 'year' too late? really? So Rex gives him week or two off with pay before deciding he needs BT against the Pats. Big deal. No one should be the least bit shocked.
I'm actually sad about this. BT was a solid steady LB for a long time for us and you never heard a peep out of the guy. All he did was come to play everyday. Good luck BT, hope to see you back in the fold down the road.
I appreciate your sentiments, but what you actually 'hope for' is for one of our young OLBrs step up, seal the edge, and get to the QB more than once a 16 game season. Oh, and that Rex digs the next LT out of the draft barrel next year. Yup.
I think you nailed it on the head, you can't IR him because then he is done for the year. He was holding onto a roster spot that we obviously need so it was done for roster manipulation as opposed to him actually being done with the Jets. Being he is injured I doubt somebody else looks at him and next week we'll resign him and the player we move onto the roster today will be moved again.
Right but someone can come in and give him a contract. He can double dip paychecks so there's still a risk the Jets lose him.
am i the only who doesnt give a shit about BT??? hated that we drafted him hated that he wore #99 and hated that he gave jason taylor #99
Rich Cimini @RichCimini Over-reaction to Bryan Thomas move. The Jets intend to re-sign him ... unless another team (Patriots?) makes sneak attack. #Jets
