I know we've had a string of injuries and the jury is out, but was he supposed to produce 9 HoFers in his first draft? Everyone is saying Mekhi Becton looks like a franchise LT. No one is going to give Douglas credit for having the brass balls to stay put at 11 when he knew other teams are taking LT in the top 5, top 10??
Too early to tell, but Becton looks like real deal, and Mims hasn’t even seen the field. Davis, Perine underwhelming so far, Zuniga no show, project QB is an unknown, punter looks good. Db still no show... so pretty much a lot of unknown. But if we hit on 3-4 as starters that is great draft. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We know today that idzidiot was terrible draft with 2 yrs and 19 picks. 1 decent 1st rounder in Richardson, find in 6th with enunwa. Dozier and winters marginal OL. So in hindsight, very poor. 19 picks only 4 nfl players with value. That is complete failure pretty much. If we look back 5 yrs from now and Douglas got only 1 pick right, we will call it what it is, but if 3-4 nice players and 1 all-pro, then we grade it fantastic... so too early to bash JD. For sure. well I get that but I look at it this way....would a better coach still be losing by blowouts and have us this non-competitive? so yeah, even John harbaugh or Belichick or Pete Carroll or Sean Payton or whomever else we want to hold up ... I doubt even they could get this roster to the playoffs... it I don’t doubt that we would be way more competitive under any of those guys. I don’t think we’d be getting blown out in the first half, and I don’t think the players would be so apathetic So yeah, the roster does suck balls...no doubt...not a superstar on the field ... but the coaching is not helping at all, and in fact I think the coaching is making it worse
Who would want that guy anyway? A coach without the confidence to just go do his job instead of worrying about what the fans think should stick to tee ball. A coach who doesn't look forward to working with the GM to build a better team should stay home waiting for his phone to ring - it won't. I hope the biggest fiction in your view is that either Johnson would call such a guy.
Any HC prospect that sees a team that's a year away, and doesn't want fans calling for him 2b fired 3 games into his new administration....and an owner that follow fans orders to fire him..
The question was about who would want such a coach, not what a thin skinned narrow minded coach would want. Fans don't give orders to owners.
The moment the franchise went from decline to hopeless was when the fans bought a plane with a banner and the owners caved. We've been terrible since then except for the FitzMagic year which was all front-loaded with all the soon to drop out free agent signings. Cave #2 is about upon us and it will set us back even more. Can't wait for the Gregg Williams era because no serious HC candidates will talk to us.
Are you really serious? You really believe the owners caved to the desire of a few noisy fans? It couldn't possibly be that management saw the same failures that the vast majority of fans saw? The record of the team with no promise of turning it around were not factors? NFL insiders and media veterans were surprised it took that long. I wish the fans were that powerful. What purpose would have been served by keeping Bowles? And now, rather than recognize that they made a faulty decision in hiring a failure proven out by the experience of the team over the past twenty months, you expect them to just ride the train until it runs out of track just so they don't need to listen to the fans or the media? What purpose would that serve? (Notice a pattern here?) You know you're making up the part about no serious HC candidate talking to the team - it was proven then and will be proven again. There's only 32 of these jobs in the world and hundreds of guys want them. How many serious HC candidates have ever turned one down? How does this team get set back any more than where they are now?
Turning into a real risk-taker, huh? Pretty sure about four out of five here would have been very happy with McCarthy. Lot's of guys here are quick to say why we didn't but while it fills up the boards, nobody really knows.
The banner was for Idzik. Blaming the fans for calling for Idzik to be fired is straight-up victim blaming.
I think the more likely scenario if the Jets defense fails to handle the Denver QB(s)/offense is scapegoating Gregg Williams. The Jets defense has been so bad this year if they can't handle that Denver offense I doubt the Jets would give coach Williams the promotion to interim head coach. Firing coach Gase would lead to complete chaos for Darnold because he calls the offensive plays as well as handle the head coaching duties. I think he's the QB coach too. Not a good look for Douglas. It's already bad enough he let Robby walk out the door, failed to properly address WR in the most loaded WR draft (ever?) to now fire Darnold's OC/HC four games into the season would make it look even more like he's hanging Darnold out to dry. This week I read on PFT that Wade Philips is looking for work he'd like to get back into the NFL.
I was just talking to someone about this today, you can make a strong case he missed on every pick he had!
While I’m all for our boys getting a head start in things, I think the bigger question is, “who” are they reaching out to. I think Costello said it best, “we need a parcells.” I just don’t know A-who that is now. And more importantly B-why they would wanna come here and leave where they are?
It is the latter point that is wrong, he shouldn't be fired for failing to do those things, those things are currently a pipe dream but he should be fired for being an incompetent HC/OC the lack of direction, the extremely poor play-calling, running the white flag up just before half time, clock management, not being able to do anything on the offence, have you ever seen a team be as poor as the Jets are right now?
Yeah? Winless bucs, lions, and browns, Bungles in early 90s, aints with their paper bag masks, and yes the 96 jets! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Those 4 were/are starters on nfl team. So can’t ask for much more on that, not great players to say the least, but later picks with value, you could say finds. Richardson was 1st rounder, average pic, useful player. So like I say miserable. Noteworthy, majority of the pics were massive busts, and many never played snap in NFL, that is probably better measuring stick. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I get your point, but Idzik had no right to be hired as NFL GM, that’s where my heartburn is with team leadership, as he should not even have been hired in the first place! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
