Keller is going to make you forget about Chris Baker.

You're absolutely right - we'll really miss his 21 receptions and his lack of presence in the redzone.

Fine with this move for depth.

Yes in the passing game. But we should have kept Baker who is a more complete TE right now.

Man... what if we signed Ben Watson? Imagine a 3TE set with Franks staying in to block and Watson and Keller splitting out at the last second?

There's a reason people called him the 'touchdown maker'. He wasn't outstanding but he was usually pretty clutch, especially in the endzone, plus he could block. I think he would have been a much better option than Franks.

I agree. Watch NE turn Baker into a probowler.

...and that reason is because his last name rhymes with it.

(12 TDs in 7 seasons as a Jet -- no more than 4 in any of them)

..and because he was clutch in the endzone. He was underutilized and wasn't exactly in a high-scoring offense but that doesn't mean he had a 'lack of presence in the endzone' either.

no, a pro bowl TE is Gates, Gonzales, and Dallas Clark.

Baker's talent doesn't touch those three players.

Baker isn't ever going to be an elite TE, but he was very serviceable and wasn't used enough IMO.

he wasn't, but he wanted a larger contract when he didn't really earn it. That was his downfall here.

Sad, he could have been what he was and been good doing it. There's a good chance when the Jets play the Pats this year, and the Pats are in the red zone, Brady will call baker's number just to stick it to us... and then the threads will ensue.

He doesn't have much left in the receiving department but he can still do a solid job blocking and we did need a blocking TE to go with Keller. If he stays healthy i think he will do a fine job.

correct. He always showed great hands and clutch capabilities - remember that non-touchdown in Cleveland a few years back. He just got stuck having to block so often you never saw it. I absolutely believe that he will be a breakout player this year in NE. I think 50 for 500 and 5 TDs is plausible. Yeah, that's right, career fucking highs, bitch.

That's about the way I feel. The Jets needed some help at TE, and Franks may help a bit, but I am not going to cry about Baker no longer being on the team. He really was not all that great.

If only Chris Baker had found a different parking spot for his Bentley.
