It's perfectly valid to bitch about money in the NFL...just not before you actually know how the money's being allocated. The devil is always in the details with NFL contracts. It's patently ridiculous to whine about the money Holmes is getting if you have no idea what his bonuses look like / when they will be paid / whether the deal is backloaded / etc., etc.
Exactly, I can't tell you how many retards I know in real life with no knowledge of a salary cap go "who cares how much he's making, you're not the one paying him" when discussing a contract.
^ When it comes down to talking football, he hasn't given me a reason to go after him yet. Always a good sign.
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-combine/09000d5d821006c0/Jets-free-agents-flying-away Lol @ probably should have signed him last year @ 50 million, now they are looking at 70 million. Can't believe these analyst say the stupidest shit and GET PAID FOR IT. I swear I could be a better analyst than 90% of these tools
Hell yes bitches! the stress of the offseason is now gone knowing Holmes will be on the field for us. everything now is just icing on the cake. Hopefully edwards or aso is next to sign.
LaCanfora just reported that the big deal about the Santonio Holmes deal is not that it's around 10M per, which is nothing to balk about, because it's a top of the market deal for a WR, but that it's $24M guaranteed, and sometimes guarantees are sketchy, but he was just informed that the guarantee the Jets agreed to in order to keep Holmes is "ironclad and not fluff" so not only is it the most ever for a WR, it's pretty much a lock he'll get all of it, and that's a huge deal apparently that his guaranteed money is "ironclad."
The real question is who is Andre Johnson's agent taking the 10% off the top? That would be none other than Andre Johnson, which is exactly why he has a shit deal. Over reactionary fuckheads never look at the big picture. The Staff though Holmes was by far our best receiver and paid him like it. I for one am happy as hell.
That's really far from the truth. I support the team 100%, love Tanny, and love every player on this team. I just look at the big picture with every move-- I don't have blind excitement over signings, but I'm not exactly bitching either. $10 million for Holmes seems like too much based on the other guys being paid that much. He's good- but is he worth top 5 WR money? If you look at his per game production, and multiply it by a 16 game season, you're looking around 990 yards, and 9 TD's. That's right around 20th in the NFL. I certainly think he's better than the other guys with stats in that range, but he's getting paid like the best WR in the NFL, which he is not. I'm glad we locked up one of these 3 big FA, but I'm going to hold off on the excitement until I see the full deal.
Even Eric Smith. I hated him when we drafted him, but Rex has made him a player- in a certain role anyway. He was a beast in the playoffs.
How many receivers made the plays that Holmes did? Fuck the numbers idc if he didnt have 1,000 yards. No other receivers made the plays in OT like Holmes or the catches like Holmes did against the Texans or the Pats in the playoffs
Just wanted to say that this was a no-brainer. Any of you guys who were saying that Braylon needed to be top priority were fucking clueless.
Now sign another WR (a #2) or Braylon, get a decent corner (not ASO, he will cost too much) and let's get a goddamn snack!
