Anyone else think these are draft day smoke and mirrors? Who HONESTLY thinks we could get Marshall, and keep Edwards and Cotchery. THEN run the ball as much as we do? It will never happen. No one is taking Leon for a 2nd, and the Broncos aren't swapping for him neither. Rex's comment put his value in the toilet and sent it swirling. This is all posturing for position. Not sure exactly what they are trying to do, but then again, that's the point.
We only have six picks this draft already, and you want to trade our second (we don't have a third) for a player who stands a very good chance based upon his entire career history of being suspended and/or in jail for a large part of it? No thanks.
Sure thing. I'll just leave you to getting laughed out of the Draft Forum and woefully defending 'project players' like Gholston and DRob..
i'm with you there too....i don't want to put the current chemistry at risk no more than you do. I want to keep our draft picks..and our core players. But when i measure a 2nd or 3rd round pick vs a 26 year old ELITE wide receiver.....that's tough to pass up. Provided that he stays out of trouble (that's the caveat). It would be a disaster if we gave up anything for a guy...only to lose him to a season-long suspension. I definitly see your side of the debate, WSW.......I was just looking at the positives.
And if we win a Super Bowl then BM gets "Plaxico Burressed" with a jail sentence. The question will be was it worth it? Absolutely. There are plenty of risks. But when your this close to winning a SB, sometimes you have to take risks to achieve greatness.
Gotta always edge in that one last insult don't you? That's ok... I see your true colors for what they are...a complete scumbag.
Exactly... a killer running game will always open up the passing game. we need to focus on finding future replacement for faneca and woody. Plus we need a true pass rusher on our d-line. Im okay with our safety corps, revis christ and cro will make our safties better. Its all about building up our lines, remember they are both our first lines defense. they dictate EVERYTHING! Ohh and one more thing...... :finssuck:
Keep the low blows comin buddy. Just one question: Do you have a personal profile of every single poster on this board of potential insults you can diss out if someone's opinion disagrees with yours? Or do you desperately scan through all posts from your "geek of the day" looking for skeletons? Cause either way...good for you!
(shit had to go out) Which was just another game that didn't mean shit at the end of the day. We have lost a good leader in TJ and gained another in LT, the potential of this team is as yet unfathomed. We have some great leaders in this team, and if someone like Marshall is going to get a last chance saloon, why not the Jets?
Another thing, which I don't think has been mentioned (in this thread), is that this is Sanchez's 2nd year, typically when drop off occurs. Having Marshall join our core would be immense, along with Leon(?), Greene, LT, Cotch, Keller and Braylon
Apologize to everyone for flooding this thread w/ a silly argument. Abyz...you're right...i'm wrong...you're smart..I'm stupid...Whatever floats your boat,man.
I'm mixed on Marshall. If we get him, most certainly we would be losing a big player on our team due to the amount of contracts that are due soon. However, we would be a big super bowl contender. I really hope they aren't thinking about moving Cotchery.
There's almost no trade Tanny could make for Brandon Marshall that would make the 2010 Jets a less talented team... unfortunately there are many more factors a GM needs to look at before going after a player like this. Issue 1 Character. This has been over discussed already. He could be a negative impact on the locker room. He could create problems with the receiver corps by demanding more looks or showing up Edwards by demanding he's the #1 receiver in NY. He could also be a strain on a young QB who may be ill prepared to deal with a selfish 'diva' type receiver. Edwards, Keller, Cotch, LT, and Leon are all players deserving pass attempts each game. If you bring on someone expecting 10+ targets a game you put a strain on all these players, including Sanchez and Shotty. Issue 2 Contract/Finances. He'd certainly demand a huge contract right off the bat, and the Jets would not want their top two receivers to become UFAs right after giving up picks to get them. If they did give Marshall a sizable contract, that would restrict their future ability to retain the core of their defense. This is a team built around their defense, and if they end up losing some of their young stars like Harris or Revis, they risk losing their identity. Issue 3 Draft. While we obviously have some great young talent, we are lacking youth in several positions... particularly both sides of the line. We're also missing depth at some other positions such as CB and LB. The strategy of trading picks has certainly paid off so far, but you have to be nervous about what a couple poor draft picks or key injuries could do to this team in the next few years. Giving up a valuable pick in a deep draft is a risky proposition when we have a good young WR in Cotch, and some good prospects in this years draft (I have a pretty good feeling about Benn and Tate myself) that could form the core of our receiving corps for years to come. Conclusion - I wouldn't give up more than Leon (or even better, Ghost) and a 5th for Marshall. Even at the discount I'm not sure the negatives outweigh the positives on this one.
Because, as has been said several times, whatever we have to give up we won't be able to get back if/when Marshall gets locked up midway through the season. Unless Tanny can trade with someone who has absolutely zero value to the team i.e. Ghost + Clowney + some dude from the practice squad, then it's a bad risk in a big year. Risks like that are worth taking when you're trying to get from 3-13 to 8-8, not when you're aiming to improve on losing the Conference game.
Too much money tied up at WR? If we get Marshall, Braylon will not be back unless he absolutely destroys this year. We'll cross the bridge when we get to it with the cap. There's no reason NOT to get Marshall. The offense would be absofuckinglutely ridicuous. Leon and 2nd. Done.
I'm genuinely shocked at how many people can't see beyond his undoubted talent to his equally undoubted lunacy. Leon Washington and a second round pick for a player far from guaranteed to be available for a full season due to the unpredictable behaviour for which he has extensive form? You're absolutely mad.
Im neutral on this. I really want Marshall in NY even with Cotch and Braylon on board. He brings a lot of baggage and can be a huge risk also. Pros and cons. When you weigh them, and the fact we have two starting caliber WRs, I think the pros and cons equal out. I'd be ecstatic if we get him and wouldn't be too upset if we dont.
