Just imagine having 3 of the most physical WRs in the NFL, and 3 of the best blocking WRs in the NFL on our smash mouth team.....I still don't think it would work though. At first I was against it, now I am neutral.
We need OLine, DLine or an OLB more than we need a WR. Why give up on getting one of those positions filled in the draft now by trading away for Marshall when we could either a)fill one of the actual need positions in the first two rounds or b)draft a WR who doesn't have a history of depression, domestic abuse or other legal problems.
We could draft a wr free of depression domestic abuse and legal problems, but well have no clue if he can make it in the nfl. Or we could trade for a WR with depression, domestic abuse, and legal problems who we KNOW can play wr in the nfl better than 99% of wrs out there. I wouldnt be against the trade until we know the price. Tanny aint stupid
Saw on one of the NFL rumor sites that the Broncos are now backing down on the 1st rd demands for him. If thats the case offer Braylon and a 4th or lower for him. This guy is a nut but on the field he may be the best WR in the league.
wtf?!? why the hell would you add any draft pick if Braylon is part of the trade? that's an even swap as far as trades go, you don't add shit. and that is why these trade scenarios are all asinine.
Are you kidding??? Do you watch football? How is Braylon for Marshall even? Marshall is top 5 WR and Braylon is top 50.
You're right. Fuck the draft. Let's trade away our 2nd round pick and a player for a non-need position.
I agree that Marshall is better then Edwards...but Top 50?...he is better then that. Marshall has off the field issues and everyone knows the Broncos want to get rid of him..these two things bring his value down.
I didn't say they were even on the field, I said the trade was even. keep up. do you pay attention to NFL trades? the talent to acquisition is never even in trades, but swapping one number 1 receiver for another is as even a trade as you will see.
We'll have NO clue if a WR in the draft can make it in the NFL? We might as well fire our scouting staffs. There's an entire industry centered around NFL draft predictions. Someone really ought to let them know that there is absolutely no way to have ANY clue about whether a guy CAN be an NFL talent. You make it so appealing by continuing to emphasize the depression, domestic abuse, and legal problems, by the way. If I were trying to make the argument that he's a better fit, I might have simply excluded those from my description of the guy in the 2nd paragraph.
Two deep threats will only better our running game, the safties have to respect both wide receivers every play meaning less players in the box... How the FUCK is having two number one receivers a bad thing, people are saying because he is too young wtf? or that he needs to learn how to dump it off more..... if we wanted an underneath game trade for pennington, yeah the team concept is pound the rock.... ok now pair that with three players on the TEAM whose mentality is heave it deep and the defense is always stuck in the middle. oh okay you want to send your strong safty down to the line... audible man to man coverage on Edwards... want to play the safties over the top run it down your throat... and we still have Keller available to work the short and intermediate routes along with LT and LW(if still around) now constantly being covered by a linebacker (thats not even including j-cotch). the game is all about mismatches and the more you get the more the advantage you have period.
I havent heard a single rumor of the jets trading their 2nd round pick for Marshall ? But for shits in giggles, what if we traded down our first for a 2nd and 4th. Then got Marshall for our 2nd ? We still have the same amount of picks in the first 4 rounds AND an uber elite receiver. What if we traded down our first AND got a 2nd for Leon ? If we had 3 2nd round picks youd be against giving up 1 of them for an elite guy ? Im just saying you cant complain about a trade (which is still unlikely to happen) when you have NO clue what the conditions are, unless you think the player youre getting back is worthless. And we all know Bmarsh aint worthless
If scouting staffs are perfect I guess Gholston was well worth 6th overall ? And Jamarcus Russel obviously better than Adrian Peterson ? You can never be sure that a drafted player is going to pan out. My point was you can get someone who is GUARANTEED to be able to play well and GUARENTED to have issues, or you can have someone who is a complete gamble on both fronts. all im saying is I wouldnt get my panties in a bunch until we see terms.
How can you be excited about this non-trade when you have no idea what the conditions are? Up until this week the Broncos were asking for a 1st round pick and now you think they suddenly slipped down to what? Do you really think he is going to come cheap? The last time the Jets were looking into a trade with the Broncos the were asking for Harris. If we can trade down in the draft then we can fill all the actual needs of the team instead of trying to put together a Madden roster in our WR corps. Using Mangini and Al Davis as your reasons to discount the draft completely? You're a fucking genius. Can you do my taxes? Seriously though, talking about how our GM has never steered the team wrong and then saying the most important aspect of his job is wrought with nothing but failure and the end of careers is really a great way to maintain any respect in your arguing abilities.
There's a world of difference between scouting staffs being imperfect and being clueless, which was your original assertion. As easy as you may find it to dismiss the 'issues' that Marshall has had, they COULD have an impact on how he plays. We actually don't know that he'll be able to play well because he's shown a propensity for activities that could easily impact his ability to play...period. As far as the draft, there you go again. A complete gamble? Of course there's some guesswork involved, but you're treating the draft like it's the lottery rather than, say, blackjack. You act as though every player coming out of the draft carries an equal likelihood of being a fuck up. Even if we only apply that to play on the field, it's a dubious claim. You, however, opt to apply that logic to a player's off-field behavior. Somehow, I doubt you'll find many people who agree with you. There are going to be people who won't want him regardless of the terms. I'm skeptically neutral at best. I know we won't be able to sign both Edwards AND Marshall, and I'd rather not have the one we DO sign be Marshall only to see him melt down next season and leave us depleted.
The rumor was that the jets were going to give up players. Who knows if we were offering them something like Leon/clowney/clemens and a 5th or 6th rounder. I KNOW Marshall is an elite elite player, and Tanny is an incredibly smart GM. I dont think there are any terrible moves the jets have made recently so im more than willing to trust them to keep up the magic.
They were one rigid "no" away from getting a 1st round pick out of Seattle for him and all of a sudden they are going to settle for the scrapings who cannot play on STs, a HB coming off of injury who cannot pass a physical yet, a QB who is worse than the guys they just trade for and, now, 3rd day picks? If the Broncos want to trade their premier receiver to a rising power in their conference then they are going to ask from someone who can start, not the shit we wish we could offload. Who gives a fuck about what you know? It's about what the FO knows and they know more than you. So far Tannenbaum have not brought in a player with Marshall's arrest record or his chances of getting banned for a year, something I'm assuming that was brought up a lot during the supposed talks that the Jets had internally and probably also a big reason why the Adam Shefters and Jason La Canofras here have been using the phrase "no legs" when describing this "trade" and probably we, the fans, have not heard a goddamn thing about it in weeks.
The front office knows more than us so in essence this whole thread is worthless ? Im sure they know Marshall is an elite receiver as well. That is not in question by anyone. How much he is worth is the million dollar question. A 2nd rounder? a 3rd and 5th ? And I do agree with you that this trade is unlikely. However if the FO can get the trade on conditions they like I think theyd go for that. And coming from your arguement it sounds like youre against getting Marshall under any circumstances. Only point ive been trying to make is that its stupid to be against a trade until you know what the terms are. Id be more than happy if we get a freddie barnes in the 4th or 5th, but if we got Marshall for a 2nd rounder Id still be pretty happy.
Denver is willing to take a 2nd round pick, is the latest rumor. A lot of people are assuming Denver is only willing to part with Marshall if it was a 1st. If Marshall had no off field issues and was on the block, does anyone in their right mind think Marshall could have been had for a simple 1st rounder? In that case, Marshall was easily worth a first and a third to say the least. That price dropped to a 1st due to his off the field issues. Seattle is pretty much the only team showing any real interest and even they are not willing to part with a 1st. That has dropped Marshall's value. Since the Jets 2nd rounder is a few picks away from a 3rd, I wouldn't mind a trade with a conditional pick such as the one with Pacman and Cowboys. A lot of people here want Tate, which to me is ridiculous. We have other needs that are more visible than spending a 1st rounder on a WR. I'd would rather take Marshall with a conditional 2nd before I take Tate with the first. Marshall needs to prove nothing on the field. Tate has everything to prove. Like I said before, Im neutral on this. WR is not a huge need. Just need a slot receiver that can even be found on the third day of the draft. But if we are willing to spend a 1st or a 2nd rounder on a WR, I'd rather take Marshall with a conditional 2nd.
